Lance Fields' two-out bases loaded single in the 10
th-inning lifted Henderson State to a 1-0 win over Harding in game one of a double-header, Tuesday at Clyde Berry Field.
Harding, 9-5 on the season, rebounded to win the second game 6-1.
Henderson 10
th-inning began with a Connor Brackhahn single to right field. Brackhahn advanced on a
Jay Hawley sacrifice bunt. The Reddies went on to load the bases when
Hayden Lessenberry walked and
Carlos Rodriguez was hit by a pitch.
With two-outs, Fields laced a Tyler Stanford pitch down the left field line for the game winner.
Starting pitcher
Dylan Howell pitched seven shutout innings, allowing five hits in a no decision.
Luke Tebbetts entered the game in the eighth-inning and went the final three innings and did not allow a hit to pick up the win. The freshman from Winnsboro, Texas improved to 3-0 on the year.
In game two, Harding totaled just five hits but took advantage of two Reddie errors.
Henderson's lone run came in the fourth-inning when the Reddies manufactured the run with the help of two Harding errors.
The Reddies, 4-11 on the year, managed just five hits with
Hunter Mayall having two singles.
Henderson State will return to Great American Conference play this weekend when the Reddies travel to Monticello to take on Arkansas-Monticello beginning Friday at 2 p.m.
