REDDIE BASEBALL TO FACE 13th RANKED BOLL WEEVILS

Henderson State will travel to Monticello, Ark. to face 13th-ranked Arkansas-Monticello in a three-game Great American Conference series beginning Friday at 2 p.m.

The two teams will conclude the series with a double-header on Saturday starting at Noon.

The Reddies, 4-11 overall and 3-3 in league play, are still struggling offensively having a .225 team average while scoring just over three runs per game.

Lance Fields has been solid at the plate leading the team with a .348 average, while Matt Evans is hitting .270 with a pair of doubles and five RBI.

The Henderson pitching staff has a collective earned run average of 5.77. The biggest setback has been the walks allowed by Reddie pitching. In 117 innings, HSU pitchers have walked 66 batters while striking out just 63.

Colton Lorance will start Friday's opener, with Jay Hawley and Cody Jones getting the nod Saturday.

Lorance is 1-1 on the year with a 3.52 ERA. The junior from Texarkana, Texas will attempt to rebound from his toughest outing of the year last week. East Central collected 11 hits and scored five runs in 6 2/3 innings off the left-hander.

Hawley has a 3.79 ERA and has struck out 12 batters in 19 innings of work. The freshman from Queen City, Texas also had a difficult day last week against the Tigers giving up five runs on four hits.

Jones will be making his first start for the Reddies after making three relief appearances. Last week against ECU, The Phoenix, Ariz. product surrendered 3 runs in 2 1/3 innings.

The Weevils, 12-3 overall and 4-2 Great American Conference moved up in the national rankings after recording a 2-0 victory over NCAA Division I Arkansas State on the road, before taking two of three Great American Conference games from Southwestern Oklahoma State.

Playing with no seniors and relying on several freshmen, the Reddies will have their hands full as they face one of the top pitching teams in the conference. UAM sports a 2.81 earned run average with opponents hitting just .244 off of the Boll Weevil hurlers.

Logan Johnson and Kade Garlington make up UAM's one-two punch on the mound.

Johnson is 3-0 on the season with a 3.54 ERA, while Garlington has a 4.43 and is 2-2 on the year.

Offensively, the Boll Weevils are hitting .280 as a team with Ben Agredano leading the way with a .373 average with a team-best 14 RBI.

Austin Braddock follows with a .339 average including 13 RBI and a team-leading six doubles to his credit.
