D'Marco Poindexter's 3-run home run in the bottom of the ninth propelled Arkansas-Monticello to a 6-3 win over Henderson State, Tuesday at the Houston Winter Invitational at Minute Maid Park.
With one-out and runners on the corners, Poindexter took a
Nick Vanthillo pitch over the left field wall to help the Boll Weevils improve to 4-0 on the year.
UAM took an early 2-0 lead in the third with the help of a RBI double by Austin Braddock.
Henderson State, 0-4 on the year, continued to struggle putting hits together as the Reddies had several opportunities in the middle innings, including hitting into an inning-ending double-play with the bases loaded.
The Reddies finally go on the board in the eighth as
Lee Richardson led off the inning with a single up the middle. Pinch runner
Hayden Daniel entered the game for Richardson and stole second.
With one-out,
Matt Evans reached when he was hit by a pitch before
Andrew Reynolds popped out to shortstop.
Ashton Roberts plated Henderson's first run with a single to centerfield to cut the deficit to 2-1.
UAM got the run back in the bottom half of the inning on a solo home run by Ben Agredano to push the Boll Weevil lead back to 3-1.
In the Reddie ninth with one-out,
Tadarious Hawkins was hit by a pitch, followed by a double to right field by Connor Brackhahn.
Will Powell then grounded out to second base, forcing Hawkins home.
Hunter Mayall followed with a double down the left field line to tie the score at 3-3.
UAM got singles by Tyler Carruthers and Evan Comeau before Poindexter's game-winner.
Colton Lorance pitched 6 innings for the Reddies, giving up two runs on five hits.
Richardson and Roberts led the Reddie offense with two hits each.
Henderson State is schedule to play its home opener on Saturday against Arkansas-Fort Smith with the first pitch set for Noon at Clyde berry Field.
