Henderson State will attempt to end a five-game Great American Conference losing streak as the Reddies travel to Weatherford, Okla. to take on Southwestern Oklahoma in a three-game series beginning at 2 p.m. Friday.
The Reddies, 7-16 overall and 4-8 in the GAC, are coming off a non-conference double-header sweep of Union on Wednesday.
The Henderson offense is slowly coming together as the team is hitting .250 after having just a .232 average two weeks ago.
Jared Aschbrenner has played 10 games and has made the most of his recent playing time having a .333 average including three doubles.
Lance Fields is hitting .327 with seven RBI, while
Matt Evans has a .313 average including a team best 12 RBI.
The Reddie pitching staff is attempting to overcome putting runners on base as the Henderson hurlers have walked 102 batters and hit 45 batters in 179 innings.
Colton Lorance,
Jay Hawley and
Dylan Howell will make up the Reddie rotation.
Lorance is 2-2 on the season with a 4.00 earned run average, while Hawley will be looking for his first win of the year. The freshman is 0-3 and sports a 5.02 ERA.
Howell is also winless having a 0-2 record but has the best ERA on the team at 3.09. Opponents have a .210 batting average against the rookie.
Southwestern Oklahoma is 11-8 overall and 5-4 in GAC play. The Bulldogs have won eight of their last nine games including a three-game sweep of Southern Nazarene.
The Bulldogs have a team batting average of .281 and are lead by Dalton Daniels who is hitting .394.
Chris Faulkner is SWOSU's power hitter having a .344 average with 11 doubles, and 14 RBIs.
The series will conclude on Saturday with a double-header at Noon.
