Southwestern Oklahoma holds Off Reddies in Baseball Twinbill

Henderson State dropped a Great American Conference double-header to Southwestern Oklahoma 6-1 and 5-1, Friday in Weatherford, Okla.

The Reddies, 7-18 overall and 4-10 in the GAC, out-hit the Bulldogs in the opener but couldn't get the timely hit they needed.

Southwestern Oklahoma, 13-8 and 7-4, scored a pair of runs in the first, but the Reddies quickly responded with a run in the second-inning as Matt Evans led off things with a single up the middle and advanced to third on an error.

Evans then scored when Andy Kovarik grounded out to second base to cut the deficit to 2-1.

SWOSU added two runs in the fifth and single runs in the seventh and eighth innings.

Luke McGuire, Tadarious Hawkins and Evans had two hits each for the Reddies, but SWOSU pitcher Jonathan Johnson manage to keep the Reddies from scoring the remainder of the game.

Jay Hawley had another solid pitching performance going seven innings allowing just two earned runs.

The freshman from Queen City, Texas scattered seven hits and struck out one batter to fall to 0-4 on the year.

In game two, SWOSU used a three-run fourth-inning to beat the Reddies 5-1.
With Henderson trailing 1-0 in the fourth-inning, Hunter Mayall reached on a one-out single up the middle and advanced to second when Evans was hit by a Ethan Davis pitch.

The Reddies pulled a double-steal before Joseph Gary laced a single to left field to tie the score by driving in Mayall. Davis, however, got out of the inning with the game tied at 1-1.

SWOSU put together three hits in the bottom half of the inning to regain the lead.

Henderson State continued to apply pressure on the Bulldogs even loading the bases in the seventh-inning, but could not push another run across.

Several Reddies had multiple hits for the two games with Mayall leading the way with three hits. Evans, Hawkins and McGuire had two hits each on the afternoon.

The two teams will complete the three-game series with a single-game in Weatherford, Okla. with the first-pitch set for Noon.
