Henderson State's late inning rally fell short as No. 4 Southern Arkansas held on to beat the Reddies 8-6, Tuesday in Magnolia, Ark.
The Reddies outhit the Muleriders 10 to 6 with
Matt Evans leading the way going 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored.
Three other Reddies had two hits with
Joseph Gary going 2-for-3 with two runs batted in.
AJ Kruzel was 2-for-4 with a double and
Tadarious Hawkins was 2-for-5 while scoring two runs.
Henderson State, 12-20 on the season, scored a run in the first-inning as
Hunter Mayall drove home Hawkins who led off the game with a single.
After SAU plated two runs in the second, HSU answered with a pair of runs in the third with the help of a double by Evans and a sacrifice fly by
Lance Fields.
Southern Arkansas, 25-7 on the year, scored four runs in the third-inning to take a 6-3 lead. Jackson McCurdy provided the big hit in the inning with a two-run double to left-center field.
The Muleriders added two more runs in the sixth-inning before the Reddies erupted for three runs in the seventh.
The Reddies put together four hits in the frame with Gary having a two-run single to highlight the frame.
Preston Gray pitched the final two innings for SAU and struck out a pair of Reddies to record his seventh save of the year.
The Reddies will next travel to Bethany, Okla. to face Southern Nazarene in a three-game GAC series beginning Friday at 2 p.m.
