Reddies Roll to a Pair of Wins Over SNU

Henderson State's offense erupted for 27 hits as the Reddies swept a double-header from Southern Nazarene 10-2 and 8-7, Friday in Bethany, Okla.

The Reddies, 14-20 overall and 9-11 in the Great American Conference, have won seven of their last eight games including five straight conference contests.

Henderson clubbed out 15 hits in the opener with Carlos Rodriguez leading the way going 3-for-4 with a pair of runs batted in.

Joseph Gary, AJ Kruzel, Conner Brackhahn and Will Powell all had two hits each in the game. Gary and Kruzel both had doubles and a RBI, while Powell was 2-for-2 with a double.

The Reddies led 1-0 before scoring nine runs in the middle innings, plating a pair of runs in the fourth, three runs in the fifth and four runs in the sixth.

Colton Lorance improved to 4-2 on the year, pitching six complete innings while striking out four batters. Josh Henderson pitched the final three innings in relief, striking out two batters to pick up his first save.

The Reddies scored six runs in the first-inning of game two with Powell and Tadarious Hawkins both having two-run singles in the inning.

Henderson add a run in the third-inning as Hunter Mayall singled, advanced to second on a wild-pitch and stole third before scoring on a ground out by Gary.

SNU slowly chipped away at the Reddie lead and tied the score in the sixth-inning at 7-7.

In the Henderson seventh, Matt Evans led off the frame with a double and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Mayall. Evans scored on a Gary sacrifice fly to right-field for the game-winning run.

Jon Luthe picked up the win in relief to improve to 2-5 on the season, while Luke Tebbetts pitched the final inning and was credited with his second save of the year.

Mayall was 3-for-3 in the game with a triple, two runs scored and a run batted in.

Powell finished the double-header going 4-for-5, while Rodriguez, Kruzel and Mayall also had four hits each.

The two teams will finish the series with a single nine-inning game Saturday at Noon.
