Reddies Drop Final Game of Series to SNU

Southern Nazarene used a six-run second-inning and held off a late inning rally by Henderson State to beat the Reddies 13-11, Saturday in Bethany, Okla.

The Reddies, 14-21 overall and 9-12 in the Great American Conference, claimed the series with a double-header sweep on Friday.

Southern Nazarene, 12-20 overall and 4-17 in league play, held a 1-0 advantage after the first-inning before the Reddies took a 4-1 lead in the second-inning getting key hits by AJ Kruzel, Conner Brackhahn and Tadarious Hawkins.

However, the Crimson Storm answered with six runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a 7-4 lead.

SNU scored three more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning when Chance Sam Miguel hit a three run double to right center to give the Storm a 10-4 lead.

The Reddies battled back with three runs in the top of the seventh inning to cut the Storm lead to 10-7 with the help of a RBI double by Hawkins and a two-run double by Matt Evans.

The Storm pushed two more runs across in the bottom of the seventh to make the score 12-7 before Henderson struck for three more runs in the eighth highlighted by a 3-run home run by Hawkins.

Trailing 13-10 in the ninth, the Reddies plated a run in the inning on an RBI single by Hawkins and had the tying run on second with two-outs.

SNU pitcher Mike Desciosciolo was able to close out the game as he forced Evans to ground out and end the game the salvage a win for the Storm.

Hawkins had a huge day at the plate going 4-for-6 with three runs scored and a career-high six runs batted in.

The sophomore from Commerce, Texas finished the series with six hits, a double, home run and eight RBI.

Will Powell and Kruzel both totaled five hits in the three-game series with Kruzel scoring five runs and Powell three.

The Reddies will next play a non-conference game against Ouachita Baptist on Tuesday at Rab Rodgers Field beginning at 3 p.m.
