Reddie Baseball Swept by Southern Arkansas

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Southern Arkansas completed a three-game sweep of Henderson State by winning a double-header 11-4 and 4-1 Saturday at Clyde Berry Field in Arkadelphia, Ark.

The No. 4 Muleriders improved to 19-4 overall and 9-3 in the Great American Conference, while the Reddies fell to 5-16 and 4-8 in league play.

In the opener, Henderson State jumped out to 3-0 lead scoring three runs in the second-inning.

Matt Evans began things with a single up the middle, followed by Andy Kovarik reaching on a base on balls.

Carlos Rodriguez drove in the first run when he singled to right-center field to score Evans.

The Reddies would then load the bases for Hayden Daniels. The freshman from Bryant, Ark. delivered his first collegiate hit to drive in another Reddie run to make the score 2-0.

Hunter Mayall drove in the final run of the inning with a sacrifice fly to left field that scored Rodriguez.

Reddie pitcher Jay Hawley cruised through the first three innings striking out four batters and holding SAU scoreless. However the freshman ran into control problems in the fourth-inning as he walked two batters and hit two more to begin the inning.

With one run already plated, William Townsend drove in the second run of the inning when he reached on a bunt single.

After SAU tied the score on a fielder's choice, Hawley walked in another run as Jon Phillips received the free pass to give the Muleriders a 4-3 lead.

Steven Brooks then entered the game for Hawley, but SAU would add four more runs with the help of another walk, a wild pitch and RBI singles by Carver Radamacher and Ryan Dardenne.

Five Reddie pitchers combined to give up eight walks and hit five batters.

In the series finale, SAU scored a run in four straight innings while having just four hits.

Henderson's lone run came in the sixth-inning as Rodriguez hit a two-out single to drive home Lance Fields who singled to begin the inning.

Henderson State will next play Union University in a non-conference double-header beginning Wednesday at Clyde Berry Field with the first pitch set for Noon.
