Box Score Henderson State scored four runs in the fifth-inning to beat Harding, 4-3 Friday in Searcy, Ark.
The Reddies, 16-22 overall and 10-12, is in eighth place in the Great American Conference standings and is within striking distance of obtaining one of the six spots available for the GAC Tournament.
Harding, 22-16 overall and 13-9 in the GAC, took a 2-0 lead in the first-inning as Erin McCarver, James Anderson, and Noah Chandler each doubled in the first-inning.
Bison starting pitcher Cameron Walker held the Reddies in check for the first four innings as Henderson went without a hit and had just one base runner.
However, Henderson State erupted for four runs on five hits in the fifth-inning to take a 4-2 lead.
AJ Kruzel and
Joseph Gary began the inning with back-to-back singles.
Carlos Rodriguez plated Kruzel with a one-out single to left field, followed by a RBI base-hit by
Andrew Reynolds to tie the score at 2-2.
Tadarious Hawkins then reached on a walk to load the bases before
Matt Evans gave Henderson a 3-2 lead with a sacrifice fly to right field.
Hunter Mayall then delivered a two-out single to score Reynolds to put the Reddies on top 4-2.
Harding cut the Henderson State lead to one with a run in the bottom of the fifth on a RBI double by McCarver before Henderson State starting pitcher
Colton Lorance got the next two Bison batters to fly out to end the inning.
Harding had the tying run in scoring position in the seventh, eighth, and ninth innings but came up empty each time as Reddie relief pitcher
Luke Tebbetts closed the door, pitching the final two innings to pick up his third save of the year.
Lorance was credited with the win and improved to 5-2 on the season, while
Josh Henderson and
Steven Brooks held the Bisons in check in the sixth and seventh innings.
Gary was 3-for-4 with a run scored to lead the offense, while Kruzel was 2-for-4.
The two teams will finish the series with a double-header Saturday beginning at Noon at Jerry Moore Field in Searcy.
