Reddies Win Baseball Series From Harding With 8-3 Win

Henderson State recorded an 8-3 win over Harding in the first-game of a double-header to win a Great American Conference series from the Bisons, Saturday in Searcy, Ark.

The Reddies, 4-3 winners on Friday, dropped the finale to Harding  7-0.

The Reddies used a six-run third inning in the opener and was aided by three Harding errors to pull away from the Bisons.

HSU scored an unearned run in the first-inning before increasing the lead to 7-0 with the six-run third.

Tadarious Hawkins and Matt Evans both reached on errors to begin the frame, before Will Powell and AJ Kruzel both singled to plate a run.

Conner Brackhahn supplied a two-run double down the right-field line followed by a two-run base hit by Carlos Rodriguez for the final runs of the inning.

Harding scored a run in the bottom half of the inning, but the Reddies got the run back in the fourth as Hawkins singled and later scored on a wild pitch.

Jon Luthe started the game on the mound for the Reddies and went five innings to pick up the win and improve to 3-5. Luthe surrendered one run on four hits.

Steven Brooks pitched the last four innings and picked up his first save of the year.

Harding salvaged a win in the final game with the help of three-hit performance by Matt Calhoun.

Bison pitcher Collin Campbell pitched a seven-inning shutout and allowed just five hits and no walks.

Powell led the Reddies with two hits in the game.

Joseph Gary finished the three-game series going 5-for-9 while Kruzel was 4-for-10.

The top six teams at the end of the regular-season schedule will advance to the GAC Tournament in Enid, Okla., on May 3-6. Henderson State, 17-23 overall and 11-13 in league play, are two games out of the sixth spot with two conference series' remaining.

The Reddies will finish the regular-season with eight straight home games beginning with a GAC series against Arkansas Tech next Friday with the first-pitch set for 3 p.m. at Clyde Berry Field.
