Box Score Henderson State fell victim to a late inning rally by Arkansas Tech as the Wonder Boys beat the Reddies 6-5, Sunday in Russellville, Ark.
Despite the loss, the 13th-ranked Reddies won the series by winning a double-header on Saturday.
Arkansas Tech, 5-9 overall and 1-5 in the Great American Conference, held a 2-0 lead through five innings before the Reddies tied the score in the top of the sixth.
Hayden Lessenberry led off the frame with an infield single followed by
Lance Fields reaching on a walk.
Andy Reynolds loaded the bases with a single up the middle before
Conner Brackhahn drove in Lessenberry with a single to right center field to score Henderson's first run.
Tadarious Hawkins then tied the score with a sacrifice fly to right field to plate Fields.
Henderson State, 8-2 overall and 4-2 in the GAC, would put together three hits in the seventh-inning with Fields putting the Reddies on top 3-2 with a RBI single to score
Claude Johnson who led off with a base hit up the middle.
The Wonder Boys would take the lead in the eighth-inning on RBI doubles by Bryan Heward and Keenan Jumper to make the score 4-3.
The Reddies, however, would rally in the ninth manufacturing two runs with
Ashton Roberts delivering a RBI pinch-hit single and later scoring on a Wonder Boy throwing error.
Arkansas Tech then loaded the bases in the ninth and would score two runs when Kris Ayers and Heward were hit by pitches to win the game.
Henderson State outhit Arkansas Tech having 13 hits compared to 9 for the Wonder Boys.
Fields was 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Reddies, while Johnson,
Jordan Taylor and
Hunter Mayall had two hits each.
Johnson finished the three-game series going 7-for-12, while Fields, Taylor and Mayall totaled five hits each.
Henderson will next travel to Searcy, Ark. on Tuesday for a non-conference single nine-inning game against Harding with the first pitch set for 1 p.m.
