Box Score 2 Henderson State was on the road again as the Reddies traveled to Jackson, Tenn. and split a double-header with Union, winning 4-1 before losing in 10 innings 2-1.
The Reddies, playing their fifth straight week away from Clyde Berry Field, got solid pitching performances in both games, but couldn't get the timely hit in game two to claim the sweep.
In the opener,
AJ Kruzel got things started leading off the game with a single to left field followed by
Claude Johnson who was hit by a Preston Thompson pitch.
Kruzel would score Henderson's first run as Jordan Thompson hit a ground ball to third that was misplayed by Union's Jim Martin to make the score 1-0.
Union would answer with a run in the bottom half of the inning before the Reddies took a 2-1 lead in the top of third on a single by
Hayden Lessenberry which scored Johnson who walked and advanced to second on a base hit by
Lance Fields.
The Reddies would tack on two more runs in the fourth with the help of doubles by
Tadarious Hawkins and
AJ Kruzel.
Lessenberry would have three of Henderson's eight hits in the game, while Kruzel would finish the game going 2-for-4.
Luke Tebbetts pitched six innings, scattering six hits and striking out two batters to improve to 2-1 on the year.
Nick Vanthillo pitched the final inning fanning two batters.
Henderson State, 13-7 on the season, stranded 10 base runners in game two and failed to get an extra-base hit.
Union scored a run in the first-inning before the Reddies tied the score at 1-1 in the fifth as Hawkins singled and later scored on a wild pitch.
The Reddies worked six different pitchers with the Henderson hurlers striking out nine batters. Union scored the winning run on a wild pitch in the 10th-inning.
Hawkins had two of Henderson's six hits in the game.
Henderson State will return to Great American Conference play this weekend when the Reddies hit the road again traveling to Magnolia to face Southern Arkansas in a three-game series beginning on Friday at 6 p.m.
