Box Score 2 It took extra-innings, but Henderson State won a pair of Great American Conference games from No. 25 Southern Arkansas, Saturday in Conway.
The Reddies, 15-7 overall and 8-5 in the GAC, opened the series with a 7-5 victory in 10 innings, and followed with a 5-4 win in 8 innings.
The double-header sweep of the Mulerides marks the fourth series win of the season for the Reddies. Â
In the opener, Henderson State took a 2-0 lead scoring a run in the first and second innings with the help of a RBI single by
Lance Fields in the first, and a
Claude Johnson double in the second.
After SAU scored a run in the third to cut the deficit to 2-1, the Reddies scored three runs in the fourth-inning to take a 5-1 lead.
With one-out,
Matt Evans got things started with a single to center field.
AJ Kruzel would then walk followed by Johnson reaching on a fielder's choice with Kruzel advancing to second on a throwing error allowing Evans to score.

A second SAU error allowed Kruzel to score with Johnson scoring on a ground out by
Jordan Taylor.
The Muleriders would rally to tie the score at 5-5 to force extra-innings.

In the Henderson 10th,
Andrew Reynolds would reach on a catcher's interference to begin the inning and advance to second on a
Hunter Mayall sacrifice bunt.

With two-outs,
Tadarious Hawkins drove in the go-ahead run when he singled up the
middle and advance to second on the throw as SAU's attempt to gun down Reynolds at the plate failed.

Matt Evans provided an insurance run when he reached on an infield single while Hawkins advanced to third and scored when SAU committed its fourth error of the game on the play.
After Reddie relief pitcher
Nick Vanthillo entered the game in the eighth and gave up an unearned run, the senior from Brasschatt, Belgium retired the next nine batters in order to pick up the win and improve to 4-0 on the year.
In the nightcap, the Reddies trailed 2-0 before tying the score in the fourth-inning as Henderson got key singles from Johnson and Fields while taking advantage of a SAU error.
SAU regained the lead with a run in the fifth, but the Reddies plated two runs in the sixth-inning as
Conner Brackhahn roped a two-run two-out single to right-center field to put Henderson on top 4-3.
The Muleriders, 18-11 overall and 8-6 in league play, tied the score with a run in the bottom of the seventh to again force extra-frames.
The Reddies, however, responded in the eighth-inning using a little two-out magic.
Johnson led off the inning with a single up the middle and would advance to second on a wild pitch.
With two-outs,
Hunter Mayall smashed a single to left field to score Johnson and give the Reddies the one run advantage.
Relief pitcher
Jordan Taylor pitched the final two innings and retired the side in order in the eighth-inning while striking out two batters to pick up the win and pick up his first win.
The two teams will play the final game of the series on Sunday in Conway with the first pitch set for 3 p.m.
