SAU USES BIG SEVENTH-INNING TO GET BY REDDIES 12-6

Box Score

Henderson State could not overcome a five-run seventh-inning by Southern Arkansas as the Muleriders beat the Reddies 12-6 on Wednesday in Magnolia, Ark.

Leading 6-5, Southern Arkansas put together five hits including a two-run single by Byron Reichstein and a two-run double by Jon Phillips in the seventh-inning to pull away from the Reddies.

The Muleriders, 20-11 on the season, took a 2-0 lead in the first-inning before the Reddies rallied to tie the game at 2-2 scoring a pair of runs in the second-inning.

Ashton Roberts accounted for the first run hitting a solo home run, with Hunter Mayall having a RBI single to score Carlos Rodriquez who singled earlier in the frame.

The Reddies, 15-9 on the year, took a 3-2 lead in the fourth when Jordan Taylor smacked a double to left field that plated Mayall who singled two batters earlier.

SAU responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning and added two more runs in the sixth-inning to take a 6-3 lead.

The Reddies fought back in the seventh as Claude Johnson and Taylor led off the inning with back-to-back doubles. Johnson would score on a wild pitch before Taylor scored on a Hayden Lessenberry fielder's choice.

Henderson would add a run in the ninth-inning as Tadarious Hawkins singled home Lance Fields who singled up the middle to lead off the inning. However, SAU's lead was too much to overcome as pitcher Jared Webb closed out the inning.

The Reddies totaled 13 hits in the game with Hawkins leading the way going 4-for-4 at the plate. Mayall added three hits while Taylor had two safeties.

Henderson State worked out seven pitchers in the game with Ryan Black being tabbed with the loss.

Henderson State will return home for the first time since Feb. 14 on Friday as the Reddies play host to Southwestern Oklahoma in a three-game Great American Conference series with the first pitch of the series opener set for 2 p.m. at Clyde Berry Field.
