Cody Hooten picked up career win 100 as the Reddies completed a three-game sweep of Southwestern Oklahoma on Saturday in Arkadelphia, Ark.
After winning the opener on Friday, the Reddies won Saturday's opener 7-4 and finished the series with a 5-1 victory to complete the sweep and improve to 18-9 overall and 11-6 in the Great American Conference.
Claude Johnson went 3-for-5 in the twin bill having a double, home run and three runs batted in to lead the Henderson State offense.
Carlos Rodriguez went 4-for-7 with four RBI, while
Hunter Mayall was 3-for-6 with a pair of runs driven in.
In game one, Henderson State jumped out to a 3-0 lead scoring a run in the second-inning and two more in the third.
Rodriguez drove in the first run with a double to score Mayall who led off the inning with a walk.
The Reddies scored both runs in the third with two outs as
Jordan Taylor singled followed by a
Lance Fields double to put runners on second and third.
Mayall then roped a single back up the middle to score both Taylor and Fields.
After Southwestern Oklahoma scored a pair of runs in the top of the fourth to cut the deficit to 3-2, Henderson answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning.
Tadarious Hawkins singled to lead off the inning and later scored when Rodriguez hit a ground ball that was mishandled by SWOSU third-baseman CJ Faddis.
The Bulldogs tied the game in the seventh on a Bryan Holt two-out, two-run single.
The Reddies would erupt for three runs in the bottom of the eighth as Mayall started things with a double down the right-field line.
Ashton Roberts then reached on a bunt single with Hawkins being intentionally walked to load the bases.
Rodriguez again stepped up with a two-run single to score Mayall and Roberts with Hawkins later scoring on a ground out by
Andrew Reynolds.
Jordan Taylor pitched 1 1/3 innings in relief for starter
Chris Hunt to pick up the win and improve to 2-1.
Nick Vanthillo pitched the final inning striking out a pair of batters to pick up his fifth save of the year.
In the series finale, SWOSU took a 1-0 lead in the second on a solo home run by Jacob Spring.
Rodriguez then tied the score in the bottom of the inning with a two-out, RBI single to score Mayall who reached on a single to lead off the inning.
Henderson State took a 2-1 lead in the third-inning as Johnson smashed a double down the left-field line and scored when Taylor singled to right field.
The Reddies again put together a 3-run inning as Reynolds walked to lead off the frame with Kruzel then laying down a bunt single to set the stage for Johnson.
After a SWOSU pitching change, Johnson took Brett McNaughton's first offering over the left-field fence to put Henderson on top 5-1.
Cody Jones recorded a complete-game victory to improve to 5-1 on the season. The senior from Phoenix, Ariz. scattered four hits and struck out eight batters
The Reddies will begin a four game road trip on Tuesday when they travel to Conway to face Central Baptist at 3 p.m.
