Box Score Henderson State's late rally fell short as the Reddies lost to Central Baptist 9-6, Monday at Clyde Berry Field.
After falling behind 8-1 through six innings, the Reddies tacked on five runs in the final three innings but the rally fell short as Henderson lost for the second time to the Mustangs.
HSU, 19-13 on the season, narrowed the Mustang lead to five in the bottom of the sixth inning after
Lance Fields blasted a home run over the left field wall, scoring
Jordan Taylor who doubled to right field earlier in the inning.
AJ Kruzel then singled to plate
Conner Brackhahn, making the score 8-4 in favor of CBC.
Central Baptist would add one run in the top of the seventh, while HSU followed suit with a Fields sacrifice fly to right field, scoring
Hunter Mayall.
HSU held CBC scoreless for the remainder of the game, but only managed to score one run in the final inning as Brackhahn scored Taylor from third on a single to left-center field.
Luke Tebbetts picked up the loss from the mound through five innings of work, falling to 2-3 on the season.
Dylan McCain and
Hayden Daniel each saw time on the mound as well in the final three and half innings.
Taylor finished the day with four hits on five at bats, while also scoring twice.
Fields led HSU in RBI's for the game with three, while Brackhahn, Taylor, and Kruzel each had one RBI.
The Reddies will travel to Shreveport, La. on Tuesday for a non-conference double-header at LSU-Shreveport, with first pitch set for 1 p.m.
