Haleigh Henson, but it wasn't enough, as the Reddies fell to Northwest Missouri State 81-66 on Saturday night in Bolivar, Missouri.
The Reddies trailed from the get-go, as the Bearcats had a 25-19 lead after one quarter and then added onto it by outscoring Henderson in the second period 20-10 to take a 45-29 lead into halftime.
Despite trailing by as many as 18 in the second half, the Reddies refused to go away, and whittled the deficit down to 70-62 with 6:45 left in the fourth. Northwest Missouri, however, put an end to the Henderson rally with an 11-4 run to close out the quarter, and the game, to win 81-66.
Henderson, despite going to the line twice as much as the Bearcats and converting 21 of 27 attempts, was unable to withstand a barrage of Northwest Missouri 3-pointers throughout the game. The Bearcats hit 14 3-pointers and shot 50 percent from behind the line on the night.
Jones, in just her second collegiate game, was a bright spot for the Reddies. She shot 62.5 percent from the floor, was 7 of 8 at the line and finished with a new career-high of 17 points to go along with four rebounds and two assists. Jones' big night marks the second game in a row that a true freshman has led Henderson in scoring, as fellow freshman
Hailey Estes had 24 last night against Southwest Baptist. Estes led the Reddies in rebounding against the Bearcats on Saturday, pulling down six boards.
The Reddies' next game, and Great American Conference opener, is Thursday, Nov. 17 against Southern Nazarene in the Duke Wells Center at 5:30 p.m.
