Pink Jones scored a career-high 23 points as Henderson State downed Oklahoma Baptist 89-73 in Great American Conference women's basketball action, Saturday at the Duke Wells Center in Arkadelphia.
Jones was 8-of-14 from the field and 7-of-8 from the foul line to lead the Reddies.
Torrie Thompson also turned in a career-high performance with 18 points including four 3-point field goals while
Hailey Estes had her second consecutive double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
It was a slow start for the Reddies as Oklahoma Baptist built a 14-6 lead with the help of inside play by Aliyah White and Katy Custer while benefitting from five Reddie turnovers.
OBU, 0-3 on the season, led 24-22 at the end of the first quarter, but the Reddies would take a 38-30 lead going on a 13-2 run through first five minutes of the second quarter.
Thompson was a big key during the run as she hit three 3-point field goals to spark Henderson while the defense limited OBU to just 4-of-18 shooting in the period for 22 percent.
The Reddies would take a 45-36 lead into the locker room at the break with the help of 8-of-20 shooting from behind the arc.
Henderson, 2-2 overall and 2-0 in the GAC, continued its push in the second half as the Reddies outscored the Bison 44 to 37 including knocking down 14-of-19 free throws to pull away in the final quarter.
Several Reddies had major contributions in the win including Lexi Weber who led the team in rebounds with 11 while also having 7 points.
Bree Bossier scored 9 points and pulled down 5 rebounds, while
Haleigh Henson hit three key 3-point field goals to end the game with 9 points.
The Reddies finished the game shooting 39.2 percent from the field converting on 29-of-74 attempts while the Bison hit on 26-of-65 shots from the field for 40 percent shooting.
Henderson committed just nine turnovers while forcing 14, with the Reddies winning the battle of the boards, outrebounding Oklahoma Baptist 49-40.
The Reddies will travel to Clinton, Mississippi on Tuesday for a non-conference affair against Mississippi College with the opening tip set for 5:30 p.m.
