Henderson State will host East Central in a three-game Great American Conference baseball series beginning Sunday at Noon at Clyde Berry Field.
A year ago, the Reddies were forced to move its series with the Tigers to Ada, Okla. due to inclement weather and poor field conditions.
This year East Central was supposed to host the series. However, poor field conditions in Ada and with the new synthetic surface and major improvements to Clyde Berry Field, this year's series will be played in Arkadelphia.
The teams will play a doubleheader on Sunday and a single game on Monday at Noon.
The Reddies, 9-11 overall and 6-3 in the GAC, are tied for first-place. All three of Henderson's conference losses were extra-inning affairs.
Jacob Gaul and
Jordan Taylor are leading HSU at the plate for the year. Gaul has a .314 batting average, with five runs, 11 hits and three RBIs. Taylor adds a .306 average, seven runs, 19 hits and 11 RBIs.
Joseph Gary is hitting for a .364 average in the last five games, while
Hunter Mayall is .333 with a pair of doubles and five RBI.
Henderson's pitching staff has been solid for the most part with the Reddies allowing just six earned runs in the three game series last week against Southeastern Oklahoma.
Luke Tebbetts will start the first game and sports a 1-1 record with a 2.17 ERA in 37.1 innings. Tebbetts has allowed 34 hits, nine runs and struck out 27.
Zach Eschberger leads HSU with a 3-2 record and 3.67 ERA in 34.1 innings and two complete games. He has allowed 35 hits and 19 runs, while striking out 16.
Seeking his first win of the season is
Chris Hunt. Hunt is 0-2 with a 4.91 ERA and has struck out a team best 33 batters in 36 2/3 innings.
East Central enters the weekend 4-14 and 4-5 in the GAC after winning its first series of the year going 2-1 against Ouachita Baptist.
Dylan Sanchez, Kyle Britt and Brandon Dusenberry are expected to start on the mound this weekend for ECU.
Sanchez is 0-3 with a 6.00 ERA, while Britt is 2-2 with a 6.21 ERA in 29 innings. Dusenberry has the best ERA at 4.31 but is 0-1 on the year.
Shae Edmonds picked up the two wins last weekend in relief for the Tigers against OBU. Edmonds has a 5.60 ERA and has fanned 16 batters in 27 innings.
The teams have battled on 15 previous occasions since 2000, with HSU holding a 4-11 overall record and 4-8 mark in the league. The series is definitely tilted in favor of the Reddies at Clyde Berry Field, with a 1-8 mark.
Live stats and live video for the entire series will be available through the HSU athletic website at www.hsusports.com.
