HSU Baseball Series at UAM Pushed Back to Saturday and Sunday

Henderson State hits the road this weekend as the Reddies travel to Monticello for a three-game Great American Conference series against the University of Arkansas at Monticello beginning Saturday.

The series was been pushed back a day from the original schedule, and will be played as a double-header on Saturday, March 19 starting at 1 p.m. and a single game on Sunday starting at noon. Live stats and live video will be available at www.HSUSports.com.

HSU is one of the four teams currently tied for first-place in the GAC entering this weekend's slate of games. The Reddies are 11-13 overall and 8-4 in GAC games. Henderson lost a non-conference game against Arkansas Tech this past Tuesday on the road by a final score of 4-3.

The Reddies are hitting .252 but sport a .280 average in conference play. However, the Reddie offense have hit for a .320 average in the last five games.

Jacob Gaul is the only Reddie hitting above .300 with a .316 batting average. AJ Kruzel has been one of the most consistent Reddies hitting .291 with a team best six doubles along with 10 runs batted in.

Matt Evans, Hayden Lessenberry and Hunter Mayall produced offensively as late with Evans hitting .471 (8-for-17) in the last five games. Lessenberry is 6-for-13 in the last five contests for a .462 average while Mayall has gone 9 for his last 21 (.429).

Luke Tebbetts (2-1, 2.08 ERA) will start game one, with Zach Eschberger (4-2, 3.66 ERA) getting the ball for the second game Saturday. Chris Hunt (0-3, 4.91 ERA) will pitch the finale on Sunday.

UAM enters the weekend at 13-7 overall, 6-3 in GAC games and are also tied for first place in the GAC standings.

The Boll Weevils are coming off a record-setting win over Union this past Tuesday on the road, beating the Bulldogs 26-18 in the highest combined score in GAC history. The 26 runs scored by UAM was also a new GAC record for one team in a single game.

UAM has four players hitting above .300, led by Corey Wood and Nick Piraino, each with a .333 batting average. Wood leads UAM with a total of 16 extra base hits, and is on pace to break a school record for single-season homeruns having eight round-trippers this year.

Zach McKnight (2-0, 3.03 ERA), Braden Chambers (4-0, 3.03 ERA) and Grant Black (1-3, 4.40 ERA) are expected to be UAM's starting pitchers this weekend against Henderson.
