Reddies To Face Northwestern Oklahoma In GAC Series

Henderson State returns home for a three-game Great American Conference series against Northwestern Oklahoma beginning Friday at 6 p.m. at Clyde Berry Field in Arkadelphia, Ark.

The Reddies, 16-19 overall and 11-10 in the GAC, will also play a double-header on Saturday against the Rangers beginning at 1 p.m.

The series matches a pair of teams that are similar offensively as the Reddies enter with a .247 team average, while the Rangers are hitting .254.

Three Reddies are hitting above .300 with Jordan Taylor leading the way at .304. Taylor has a team best 11 doubles on the season to go along with 15 runs batted in. In the last five games the junior from Bryant, Ark. has gone 7-for-19 which includes four doubles, a triple and a .684 slugging percentage.

AJ Kruzel and Tadarious Hawkins both sport a .301 average with Kruzel having seven doubles, four triples and a team best 18 RBI.

Hawkins has 15 runs batted in and leads the GAC in stolen bases with 20.

Henderson will go with the same pitching rotation with Luke Tebbetts pitching Friday's opener with Chris Hunt and Zach Eschberger set to pitch Saturday.

Tebbetts earned GAC Pitcher of the Week honors after recording a complete-game shutout victory last weekend against Southwestern Oklahoma.

The junior from Winnsboro, Texas has a 3-2 record on the season with a 2.70 ERA which ranks sixth in the GAC. In 63 innings of work, Tebbetts has recorded 43 strikeouts with opponents having a .228 average.

Hunt is set to pitch Saturday's first game and has a 5.22 ERA. Hunt leads the team in punch outs with 45 in 58 innings.

Eschberger leads Henderson in wins with five while having a 4.83 ERA. The left-hander from Bullard, Texas has a 5-2 record against conference opponents.

Northwestern Oklahoma enters the weekend with a 12-24 record overall and a 9-12 mark in league play.

The Rangers are led offensively by Thomas Bess who ranks eighth in the GAC in hitting with a .345 average. Bess has some solid power numbers having a .521 slugging percentage while ranking second in the league in stolen bases with 18.

Xyruse Martinez is hitting .325 and leads NWOSU with 20 RBI. Martinez also has nine doubles and three home runs while posting a .548 slugging percentage.

Also providing power for the Rangers is Jacob Long who leads the club with five home runs while driving in 18 runs.

The NWOSU pitching staff has a team ERA of 4.83 with opponents having a .250 average.

Robert Lawhon leads the team with a 5-5 record and ranks second in the GAC in strikeouts with 67. Lawhon has a 4.47 ERA while limiting opponents to a .247 average.

Also set to pitch the weekend are Matt Bickford and Pat Delano. Bickford has a 0-2 record with a 3.40 ERA, while Delano is 1-3 with a 4.29 ERA.
