The Henderson State Red Wave swim teams opened their season with big wins over Texas-Permian Basin with the women winning 211-85 while the men claimed victory by a score of 157-139.
The two-day meet began with the Red Wave women starting off with a win in the 200 freestyle on Friday as the foursome of
Maddie Samples,
Elam Fulton,
Mikayla Wood and
Ohemaa Barnes swam to victory with a time of 1:41.14 to score 11 points for the Red Wave.
In the first individual event
Eleonora Unanova took first place in 400 individual medley with a time of 4:51.26.
Lindsey Lucas claimed a victory in the 200 freestyle (1:59.85), while
Jordan Adkins finished third (2:04.74) to score three additional points for the Red Wave.
Lucas also won the 50 freestyle (24.88), with Barnes coming in second (25.37) and
Lindsey Butler finishing third (25.48).Â
In the 100 butterfly, Butler beat her next closest competitor by nearly two seconds, winning in a time of 1:00.65, with Wood winning the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:10.62.
Also having a solid first day was Fulton who finished second in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.93),
Randi Latiolais third in the 100 butterfly (1:05.60) and, Unanova third in the 100 backstroke (1:03.61)
Day one finished with the 400 medley relay team of Unanova, Wood, Butler, and Lucas claiming a win having a time of 4:07.05
Unanova started Saturday's individual events with wins in the 500 freestyle (5:25.48) and the 200 backstroke (2:15.12), with Butler placing second in both events with a time of 5:28.11 in the 500 freestyle and 2:17.84 in the 200 backstroke.
Kendle Torok took first in the 200 breaststroke (2:36.26), with
Lindsey Lucas winning the 100 freestyle (54.76) and
Randi Latiolais in the 200 butterfly (2:27.42).
The Red Wave also claimed wins in the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relay events.
Butler, Wood, Samples and Barnes teamed to win the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:54.47.
In the 400 freestyle relay, the quartet of Lucas, Samples, Adkins, and Unanova swam to victory with a time of 3:43.95.
The Henderson men opened the meet with a win in the 200 freestyle relay as
Caleb Murders,
Tom Nguyen,
Corbin Greening and
Bogdan Pochynok turned in a time of 1:26.28 in their first event of the year.
Garrett Duncan was second in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:30.99 to score four points, while
Yahor Pauliukovich scored three points by placing third touching the wall in 4:31.91.
Muders won the 200 freestyle having a time of 1:46.78 and also beat the competition in the 50 freestyle (22.20).
Pauliukovich was victorious in the 100 butterfly (54.24),
Bogdan Pochynok won the 100 backstroke (52.49) and Tom
Nguyen claimed the top spot in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.38) with each putting nine points on the board for the Red Wave.
On day two,
Caleb Murders would record a win in the 100 freestyle in a time of 48.20 with Nguyen placing second (49.19) and
Corbin Greening third (49.91).
Pochynok was the Red Wave's top finisher in the 200 backstroke finishing second in a time of 2:00.67 with
Garrett Sullivan placing third (2:02.04).
Marshal Leach scored four points by finishing second in the 200 butterfly (2:03.86) with Pauliukovich finishing third (2:04.18).
Pochynok,
Garrett Duncan, Pauliukovich and Nguyen won the 400 medley relay in a time of 3:39.04.
Pochynok, Nguyen, Pauliukovich and Murders outswam the competition in the 200 medley relay (1:36.49) while the 400 freestyle relay team of Nguyen, Pochynok, Greening and Murders swimming to a win by touching the wall in 3:14.26.
The Red Wave will next be in action on October 21 when they compete in the Little Rock University Meet.
