HSU Baseball Hits the Road to Face Oklahoma Baptist

Henderson State will hit the road this weekend for a three-game Great American Conference series as the Reddies travel to Shawnee, Okla. to face Oklahoma Baptist.

The two teams will begin the series with a double-header on Friday beginning at 1 p.m. followed by the series finale at Noon on Saturday.

The Reddies, 7-3 overall and 2-1 in the GAC, will have their work cut out for them as they face the top pitching and offensive team in the league. Oklahoma Baptist has a team earned run average of 2.64 while the Bison offense is hitting .343 collectively.

Henderson is hitting .254 as a team with Parker Jones leading the way with a .333 average, including four doubles, a home run and seven runs batted in.
Joe Myers is hitting .324 with four doubles and a .419 slugging percentage.

Chris Hunt, Luke Tebbetts and Bryant Haralson make up the weekend pitching rotation.

Hunt is 2-1 on the year with a 3.32 ERA following his win last weekend against Southern Nazarene. The senior from Greenwood, Ark. leads the GAC in strikeouts with 23 with opponents hitting .186 off the right-hander.

Tebbetts is 2-0 and also sports a 3.32 ERA. The senior from Winnsboro, Texas picked up an 11-1 win last weekend against the Crimson Storm in a game that saw him strikeout seven batters and give up four hits.

Bryant Haralson is 2-1 on the season, having the second-best earned run average in the league at 1.06.  The junior from Atkins, Ark. has limited opponents to a GAC best .109 batting average while striking out 19 batters.

Oklahoma Baptist enters the series with a 7-2 overall record and 3-0 in GAC play following a three-game sweep of Ouachita Baptist last weekend. The Bisons have won 40-plus games each of the last six years including advancing to the NAIA World Series four consecutive years from 2011 to 2014.

The Bison are led offensively by Josh Timms who ranks fourth in the GAC in hitting with a .421 average. Timms has plenty of power sporting a .737 slugging percentage which includes three home runs and nine runs batted in.

Brett Berghammer is hitting .379 for the Bison with four doubles and 11 RBI, while Zane Gelphman is hitting .351 including a team-best 12 RBI.
The Bison have a veteran pitching staff with the weekend rotation including Jinny Parra, Tyler Gibson and Zach Fowler.

Parra is 3-0 on the year with a 2.12 ERA. In 15 innings of work, Parra struck out 13 batters. Last week against Ouachita, the senior from Jacagua Medio, Dominican Republic recorded a complete-game victory striking out five batters while scattering four hits without allowing a run.
Tyler Gibson is 0-1 on the year with a 5.54 ERA after a 5-4 win last week against OBU. The senior from Wister, Okla. has fanned 17 batters in 13 innings of work.

Fowler also has some impressive numbers having a 1-0 record with a 0.69 ERA. Fowler has limited opponents to just five hits in 13 innings, while striking out 17 batters.
