Reddies stumble in Alva, fall to NWOSU 62-52

ALVA, OK - Torrie Thompson had 15 points and seven rebounds, but Henderson State fell on Thursday night to Northwestern Oklahoma State 62-52 in the Percefull Fieldhouse.

The Lady Rangers jumped out to a quick 10-4 lead in the early-going on their home court, but Henderson responded, going on a 20-6 run behind three 3-pointers from Torrie Thompson, to take a 24-16 lead with 7:17 left in the second quarter. NWOSU then went on a run of their own over the final seven minutes of the half, outscoring the Reddies 16-4 to retake a 32-28 advantage heading into the halftime break.

NWOSU extended its lead to start the second half, 49-36, at the 2:09 mark of the third period. The Reddies answered and got a 3-pointer from Blu Jones and two free throws from Thompson in the final minute of the quarter to punctuate 7-1 spurt and close the gap to 50-43 heading into the final 10 minutes of the game.

Henderson did its best to cut into the lead, eventually trimming it down to 54-48 with 3:25 to go, but NWOSU proved to be too much, and used a quick 5-0 run to stretch their lead back out to 11 points and ultimately put the Reddies away, 62-52.

Thompson led Henderson with 15 points and seven rebounds, while Pink Jones registered a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds and also tacked on five assists in defeat. The Reddies hit on 13-of-14 shots from the free throw line in the game and did not allow NWOSU to hit a 3-pointer, but struggled with the full court press of the Lady Rangers all night and committed 27 turnovers in the loss. Henderson drops to 8-13 in Great American Conference play on the season with the loss.

The Reddies final regular season game is Saturday at noon against Southwestern Oklahoma State in Weatherford, Oklahoma.
