Henderson State will embark on its first venture to the Sooner State in 2017 as the Reddies travel to Weatherford, Okla. to face Southwestern Oklahoma on Saturday with kickoff set for 6 p.m.
Both teams have lost their last two games with the Bulldogs losing to Southern Arkansas 38-14 last week, while the Reddies have lost back-to-back home games.
Henderson State is making its first of three trips this year to Oklahoma this weekend. The Reddies have won 13 straight against Oklahoma opponents in games played in the Sooner State. The last loss came in Durant, Okla. on Aug. 26, 2009 when Southeastern Oklahoma beat the Reddies 54-38. Henderson is 13-1 in games played in Oklahoma since becoming a NCAA Division II member in 1993.  Â
Southwestern Oklahoma, 1-2 on the season, ranks last in the GAC in scoring averaging just 14.7 points per game and are 11th in total offense averaging 352.3 yards per contest.
Casey Freeman handles the signal calling duties, having completed 46-of-84 passes for 474 yards. The sophomore from Newcastle, Okla. had a big day against Ouachita Baptist in week two throwing for 291 yards while completing 24-of-40 passes.

Freeman has connected with 11 different receivers thus far including Jared Rayburn who has a team-best 10 catches for 64 yards.

The Reddies will also have to keep an eye on Dillon Bauer and Dylan Power. Bauer played two seasons at McNeese State before transferring to SWOSU. The junior from Willis, Texas has 8 receptions for 93 yards including a 6-catch, 85-yard performance against OBU.
Power is a 6-5 tight end who has accumulated 70 yards on 8 catches. The senior from North Las Vegas sat out last year for medical reasons. Two years ago Power played in all 12 games and had 12 catches for 76 yards.
Karltrell Henderson leads the SWOSU rushing attack and ranks sixth in the GAC averaging 72.3 yards per game. The junior from Moore, Okla. was a Second-Team All-GAC selection in 2016 after averaging 80.1 yards per game. Last year against the Reddies, Henderson carried the ball 16 times for 86 yards. Henderson needs 107 yards to become SWOSU's leading rusher in the NCAA era.

Defensively, SWOSU allows 380.3 yards and 31.6 points per game.
Linebacker Austin Loomis leads the Bulldogs defense with 23 tackles after having 10 tackles last week against Southern Arkansas. Cornerback Antoine Albert also has 23 stops including a team best four passes defended.

The Reddies have lost consecutive games for the first time since the 2011 season when Henderson lost to Southwestern Oklahoma 17-13 on September 17, then fell to Delta State 34-31 the following week.

Henderson compiled 413 yards of offense last week against the Rangers, but NWOSU converted on three fourth-down conversions in the second half to come away with the victory.

After three games, Henderson ranks ninth in the GAC in total offense averaging 356.0 yards per game.
The Reddies totaled 270 yards rushing last time out with
Andrew Black having 143 yards on 22 carries while scoring three rushing touchdowns.

Black also completed 8-of-15 passes for 143 yards against NWOSU giving him a total of 474 yards passing for the year having completed 38-of-65 passes. The junior from Tyler, Texas also leads the Reddie rushing attack averaging 59.7 yards per game this season.

Freshmen
Cobra Jones follows averaging 43.3 yards per contest. The freshman from LaPorte, Texas carried the ball 12 times for 53 yards last week against the Rangers.
Ben Johnson continues to lead the Reddie receivers with 9 catches for 125 yards including a season-best 7 receptions for 80 yards against Harding.
Austin Bennett follows with 74 yards on six grabs, while
Nicolas Hernandez has 7 receptions for 50 yards.

The Henderson defense allows 388.7 yards per game, seventh in the league. However, the Reddies lead the GAC in pass defense allowing just 132.2 yards per game.

Malik Brown compiled a team best 10 solo tackles last week against NWOSU and leads the team with 25 tackles including an interception.

Cameron Sonnier follows with 23 tackles. The junior from Webster, Texas led the Henderson defense the first two weeks of the season with 10 stops against Arkansas Tech and 11 in the season opener against Harding.

Defensive back
Sheldon Watson has collected 20 tackles along with two interceptions and three passes defended, while defensive tackle
Devante Charles has 18 stops including 2.5 tackles for lost yardage to his credit.

Last year's game in Weatherford was delayed 2 ½ hours due to thunderstorms. Henderson State scored 28 straight points including 21 in the third quarter to beat Southwestern Oklahoma 45-17.

This year's contest will be the 10
th meeting in a series which dates back to 1933. Henderson leads the all-time series 7-2. The Reddies have won five straight against the Bulldogs and six of the last seven games. The Bulldogs last beat the Reddies on September 17, 2011 in Arkadelphia by a score of 17-13.Â

Henderson State enters the game with the NCAA's longest road winning streak having won 27 consecutive games. Alabama and Oklahoma are tops in the FBS at 12 straight road victories, while North Dakota State leads FCS with 10 straight road wins. HSU's last road loss came on Oct. 29, 2011 to Division I opponent South Alabama with Jaguars beating the Reddies 28-3 in Mobile, Ala. HSU is a perfect 28-0 in the GAC in road contests since the inception of the league in 2011.
