Reddies to Host Southern Nazarene in Annual Hall of Honor Game

Henderson State returns home to face Southern Nazarene for its annual Hall of Honor game on Saturday at Carpenter-Haygood Stadium/Ruggles Field with kickoff set for 2 p.m.
 
The Reddies are attempting to win their first home game of the season and snap a three-game home losing skid which dates back to last year.
 
6603Prior to the game, the Reddie Hall of Honor Class of 2017 will be introduced. Among those inducted include from Category I (football and basketball) former Reddie football player Blake Christenson and All-Arkansas Intercollegiate Conference football and track athlete Greg Williams.
 
Category II (other men's sports) includes two-time First-Team All-AIC pitcher Allen Saylor and NCAA All-American Jarrod Eason.

From Category III (women's sports) is multi-sport athlete Selena Middleton and NAIA All-American diver Lana Stephenson Lind.
Selected from the Heritage Category is basketball all-star Roy G. Green.

Also selected to this year's class is Paul Hankins, who will receive the Distinguished Service Award, and Dr. Alvin Futrell, who is being honored with the Willie Tate Meritorious Humanitarian Award.

In addition, the 1978-79 NAIA national runners-up Reddie basketball team becomes the fourth team to be inducted.

Southern Nazarene enters Saturday's contest with a 2-2 record following a 52-0 loss to Arkansas Tech last weekend.
 
Prior to last week's loss to the Wonder Boys, the Crimson Storm recorded back-to-back victories over East Central and Harding.
 
The Crimson Storm ranks last in the GAC in total offense averaging 280.0 yards per game and 11th in scoring with just 15.2 points per contest.
 
Southern Nazarene is led offensively by quarterback Jacob Spady, who has thrown for 346 yards and four touchdowns while completing 37-of-66 passes. The junior from Hinton, Okla. completed 16-of-24 passes for 211 yards and 3 touchdowns in the win against East Central.
 
Spady is also the Crimson Storm's leading rusher with 51 carries for 246 yards and two scores including 107 yards on the ground against ECU.
 
Last year against the Reddies, Spady completed 10-of-22 passes for 137 yards including a 53-yard touchdown.
 
SNU will utilize three running backs including Daniel Ramos, Nate Walker, and Zach Walker. Ramos has 129 yards rushing on 27 attempts, while Nate Walker has toted the ball 29 times for 128 yards and Zach Walker 32 attempts for 103 yards.
 
Reid Roelofs leads the SNU receivers with 11 catches for 172 yards which includes a 4 catch, 90 yard, 2 touchdown performance against Harding.
Reese Carlson has 13 catches for 110 yards, while Zach Walker has also been active in the passing game with 13 receptions for 108 yards and two scores.
 
Southern Nazarene ranks last in total defense in the GAC allowing 469.5 yards with opponents scoring 41.8 points per game.
 
Defensive back Josh Jordan leads the Crimson Storm defense with 37 tackles Jordan had an interception in each of SNU's wins.         


Cornerback Breyon Jackson has 27 stops to go along with a pair of pass breakups. Zack Loyd has 15 tackles which includes a team-best 4.0 tackles for lost yardage.
        
The Reddies totaled 346 yards of offense including 301 passing yards, while the Henderson defense collected three interceptions and four sacks against the Bulldogs.
 
Evan Lassiter made his second career start at quarterback, stepping in for Andrew Black who did not make the trip due to a death in the family.
 
Lassiter was up to the task, completing 29-of-45 passes for 301 yards and three touchdowns including strikes of 53 and 21 yards to Darion Gray.
 
Lassiter and Black will both expected to see action this week against Southern Nazarene.  
 
Black has completed 38-of-65 passes for 474 yards and two scores.  The junior from Tyler, Texas also leads the Reddie rushing attack averaging 59.7 yards per game this season.
 
Freshmen Cobra Jones follows averaging 41.2 yards per contest. The freshman from LaPorte, Texas carried the ball 11 times for 35 yards last week against the Bulldogs.
 
Darion Gray, who originally came to Henderson as a defensive back, recorded three catches for 89 yards and now has 5 receptions for 140 yards.
 
Ben Johnson totaled 6 grabs for 51 yards and a touchdown against SWOSU. The junior from Sapulpa, Okla. leads the Reddie receivers with 15 receptions for 176 yards this season.
 
The Henderson defense allows 376.8 yards per game, seventh in the league. The Reddies are fourth in the GAC in scoring defense allowing 24.0 points per contest.
 
Malik Brown had two interceptions and had seven tackles to lead the Reddie defense against the Bulldogs. The junior defensive back from Huntsville, Texas leads the Reddies with 31 tackles and three interceptions in 2017.
 
Cameron Sonnier collected six tackles last week and now has 29 stops for the year, while defensive back Sheldon Watson has collected 24 tackles along with three interceptions including a pick-six that went 93 yards last week against SWOSU.

Saturday's game against Southern Nazarene will be the sixth meeting between the two teams with the Reddies claiming victories in all five prior games including a 40-7 win last year in Bethany, Okla. Henderson State has outscored the Crimson Storm 333 to 52 in the five games.

In addition, affiliates 99.7 FM KWPS which covers Hot Springs, as well as 100.9 KDEL in Arkadelphia and KZYP 1310 AM and 104.1 FM in Malvern. The game can also be heard on 920 AM, The Sports Animal in Little Rock.
