ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State swam hard against Delta State on Friday evening, but the Statesmen and Lady Statesmen proved to be too much, as they won both the men's and women's meets at the Wells Natatorium. The Red Wave women fell 216-77, while the men battled, but came up short, 171-122.
The men got off to a strong start, as Henderson's team of
Nathan Bighetti,
Tom Nguyen,
Leonardo Chaves, and
Caleb Murders won the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 1:31.75.
Bighetti went on to win three individual events to lead the Red Wave: the 100-yard backstroke (49.14), the 200-yard backstroke (1:53.35), and the 200-yard individual medley (1:52.63). Chaves took first in the 200-yard butterfly (1:53.55) and Murders touched the wall first in the 50-yard freestyle (21.05) and the 100-yard freestyle (47.33).
On the women's side, Henderson's best event of the evening was the 50-yard freestyle, where
Lindsey Lucas took first place (25.10),
Savannah Martin finished second (25.14), and
Ardyn Wilson grabbed fourth (26.34). Claiming three of the top four finishers gave the Red Wave 15 points in that race alone.
Lucas also finished second in the 100-yard freestyle (53.75), while
Eleonora Unanova took second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:59.00),
Mikayla Wood finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:09.50) and
Elza Kachliishvili secured a second place second in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:31.93).
The Red Wave swim again tomorrow morning when both teams compete at the Hendrix Classic in Conway, Arkansas, at 11 a.m.
