HSU Student-Athletes Reach Department-Wide 3.0 GPA for Fourth-Consecutive Semester

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — For the fourth-consecutive semester, Henderson State's nearly 400 student-athletes have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better.

Since athletic director Shawn Jones' arrival in the spring semester of 2014, the Reddies' collective academic standing has seen a significant upswing, culminating with the department reaching its goal of a 3.0 GPA for the first time in the spring of 2017. Henderson's student-athletes have not let the overall mark drop below 3.0 since.

The Reddies' continued that streak in the 2018 fall semester with a 3.0 GPA on the dot, as nine of the University's 13 athletic teams reached a mark of 3.0 or better and no team dipped below a GPA of 2.84.

"Our student-athletes' commitment to academic excellence semester after semester continues to do our department proud," Jones said. "They balanced the rigors of competing at the NCAA Division II level with their responsibilities in the classroom and have turned high-level academic work into an expectation at Henderson State. I am appreciative of our coaches, who recruit such high-level student-athletes, an outstanding faculty here at HSU, as well as our support staff on campus that ensures the Reddies get every opportunity to succeed in the classroom and on the fields of play."
