Reddies Baseball to Host HSU Invitational

The Henderson State baseball team will be at home for the first time this season as the Reddies host the HSU Invitational beginning Thursday at Clyde Berry Field.

The Reddies, 1-2 on the season, will begin the four-day event with a match-up against Nebraska- Kearney at 6 p.m. The Lopers split a two-game series with Metro State to open the season last weekend.

Henderson opened its season last weekend at the Houston Winter Invitational with the Reddies going up against three challenging opponents.

Bryant Haralson, Daniel Sprinkle, Zach Eshberger and Kris Priddy are penciled in as the four starters on the mound this weekend.

Sprinkle picked up the lone win of the weekend as the Reddies beat St. Mary's on Saturday 6-2.

Offensively, the Reddies managed just 13 hits in the first three games and will be looking to improve on that number this weekend.

On Friday, Henderson will take on 2017 NCAA National Championship participant Delta State with the first pitch set for 7 p.m.

The Statesmen, ranked No. 1 in Collegiate Baseball's Preseason Poll, are loaded with veterans including all nine offensive starters returning from a team that finished last year with a 45-13 record.

Henderson will next take on Northwest Missouri at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Bearcats opened the 2018 season losing a three-game set to Arkansas-Fort Smith.

UAFS, ranked No. 40 in the Collegiate Baseball Preseason Top 40, will be the Reddies' opponent on Sunday with the first pitch set for Noon.
