MEMPHIS — The Red Wave men got back to their winning ways on Saturday as they fought past Rhodes College 116-88 in dual meet action.
The women's team won four events on the day but fell to Rhodes 114-91.
Stephen Jones led the way for Henderson and showed his versatility by picking up wins in three events: the 50-yard freestyle (21.65), the 200-yard backstroke (1:53.98), and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:11.10).
Oscar Patten had the only other individual win for HSU in the 500-yard freestyle (4:55.77) while the team of
Tom Nguyen,
Jason Seiner,
Caleb Murders, and Patten won the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:13.48).
It was a total team effort for the men, as the Red Wave took the top three spots in the 50-yard free, the top four spots in the 500-yard free, and second, third, and fourth place in the 400-yard individual medley to amass 42 points in those three events alone.
On the women's side,
Ceci Magnani took first place in the 1000-yard freestyle (11:07.89), while
Savannah Martin won the 50-yard freestyle (25.64).
Elza Kachliishvili touched the wall first in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:26.01) to round out the individual winners for the Red Wave and the team of
Elam Fulton,
Eleonora Unanova,
Jordan Adkins, and Martin won the 400-yard free relay in the final event of the day.
The Red Wave are back in the pool next Saturday, Jan. 19, when both teams face the University of the Ozarks on Senior Day at the Wells Natatorium.
