ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Henderson State swam valiantly on Friday evening in a hostile environment and was able to pick up a split against rival Ouachita Baptist. The Red Wave men prevailed 126-79, as the women fell 124-94 to the Tigersharks.
Both the men and women got off to a quick start, as Henderson picked up wins in the 400-yard medley relay and the 1000-yard freestyle events. In the first event of the night, Amy Brandenburg, Mikayla Wood, Ardyn Wilson and Elam Fulton combined to take the top spot in a time of 4:11.89.
The Men swept the event, as Bogdan Pochynok, Zach Hansen, Marcus Hernandez and Tom Nguyen won in a time of 3:35.70. Ceci Magnani made it three-straight wins in total for the Red Wave, taking the 1000-yard freestyle in 10:55.18 while Oscar Patten took first-place on men's side, clocking in at 10:11.53.
The women would have to wait until the penultimate event of the evening to claim another win, as Fulton, Eleonora Unanova, Savannah Martin and Lindsey Lucas won the 400-yard freestyle relay in a time of 3:12.73. However, the Red Wave had multiple second-place finishes, including Jordan Adkins in the 200-yard freestyle (1:59.69), Lucas in the 50-yard freestyle (24.93), Fulton in the 100-yard freestyle (55.03), Brandenburg in the 200-yard backstroke (2:16.77) and Elza Kachliishvili in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:24.48). Magnani took second in the 200-yard butterfly (2:20.11), and 500-yard freestyle (5:18.34).
Individual first-place finishes for the men included Nguyen in the 50-yard freestyle (21.70) and Patten in the 500-yard freestyle (4:53.92). Caleb Murders won two events for the second meet in a row, taking first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:44.62) and 100-yard freestyle (47.78). Stephen Jones also took home two first-place finishes, winning the 200-yard IM (1:55.90) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:12.17).
The men capped their evening with a win in the 400-yard freestyle relay and the final event of the meet as Murders, Patten, Ryan Brown and Nguyen edged out the Tigers in a time of 3:12.73.
The Red Wave's final regular season meet will take place at the University of the Ozarks on Feb. 2 at 12 p.m.
