FINAL RESULTS
ODESSA, Texas — Locked in a tight battle after one day of competition, the men and women of the Henderson State Red Wave prevailed over Texas-Permian Basin on Saturday in the opening meet of the season. The men of the triumphed 183.5-131.5, while the women took care of business 165-149.
The quartet of Emily Chen, Elba Kachliishvili, Isabelle Andrews and Elam Fulton took first in the first event of the day — the 200-yard medley relay — in a time of 1:50.03. Kachliishvili soon garnered individual honors, winning the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:28.49.Â
Ceci Magnani continued her dominance in the long distance freestyle with a first place finish in the 500-free in a time of 5:27.80. Andrews got the second individual win of her young career Saturday when she topped the podium in the 100-yard butterfly in 59.67. Lastly, Natalie Womack, after finishing first in the 200-yard individual medley on Friday, won the 400-yard individual medley in 4:52.62.Â
HSU swept the 200-yard medley relay on the men's side when Marcus Hernandez, Zach Hansen, Yahor Pauliukovich, and Tim Holt touched the wall in 1:37.74. The Red Wave also took first in the 400-yard freestyle relay when Till Steyer, Zach Hansen, Tim Holt and Oscar Patten finished with a time of 3:12.83.Â
Sophomore Jason Seiner picked up his first win of the season after he finished the 100-yard freestyle in 48.14. Freshman Till Steyer continued his excellent debut season at HSU and notched his third and fourth win of the weekend in the 200-yard backstroke (1:54.10) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:50.46). Freshman Triston Little took the last individual event of the weekend with a win in the 400-yard individual medley 4:19.63.
The Red Wave's next meet is scheduled for Oct. 19 when HSU heads north to compete in the Little Rock Invitational at 10 a.m.
