Reddies Run Past Arkansas Tech 97-61

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Chris Parker had a season-high 26 points and Henderson State held Arkansas Tech to under 32% shooting for the game as the Reddies cruised past the Wonder Boys 97-61 on Saturday at the Duke Wells Center.

The 36-point win was the largest margin of victory ever for Henderson against a fellow Great American Conference opponent and improved the Reddies to 2-0 in the league after the first weekend of conference games. HSU has now won five-straight against Arkansas Tech dating back to 2017.

It was all Henderson from the outset, as HSU got two early 3-pointers from Parker and shot out to a 14-2 advantage. Tech stemmed the tide momentarily and cut the lead to 19-13 at the 11:25 mark, but the Reddies responded with another run, this one a 19-4 stretch over the next eight minutes, to open up a 38-17 cushion. A quick 7-3 spurt from ATU to end the half left HSU with a 17-point advantage at the break.

With momentum already on their side, things swung the Reddies way even more to start the second period. Henderson out-scored the Wonder Boys 22-11 over the first six minutes of the half to open up its largest lead, 63-35 at the 14:00 minute mark. The final result was never in doubt again, as the Wonder Boys failed to cut the deficit to under 20 points and HSU sprinted away for its second league win.

Parker, who has led Henderson in scoring in each of the first six games of the year, was 8-for-16 from the floor and hit four 3-pointers. Raekwon Rogers added 15 points and seven rebounds, while Quawn Marshall had 12 and Anthony Lupardus finished with 10. Marshall also gave Henderson some terrific defense all afternoon as he limited Tech's RJ Glasper, who entered the game averaging 24 points per contest, to three points on 1-of-8 shooting with seven turnovers.

The Reddies (5-1, 2-0) shot 55.6% in the second half and held ATU to just 3-for-22 shooting from beyond the arc (13.6%) in the game. HSU also forced 21 Tech turnovers while committing only 12.

Henderson returns to action next Saturday, Nov. 30 at 2 p.m. when it faces Paul Quinn College at the Duke Wells Center.
