ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State has won 10 of its last 12 contests and will look to take its fourth-straight Great American Conference series this weekend when the Reddies host East Central in a three-game set at Clyde Berry Field.
First pitch for game one is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Saturday evening and will be followed by a doubleheader at 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.
REDDIES REPORT
- The Reddies have been on a tear offensively over the past three weeks and are batting .338 as a team in their last 12 games.
Brandon Pollock and
Danny Mitchell Jr. are two of the biggest reasons for the uptick in production, as both have been red-hot at the plate. Pollock is batting .455 in his last 12 contests while Mitchell Jr. is carrying a .449 average and has hit four home runs since March 9.
- Pollock was named GAC Player of the Week on Monday after a tremendous series against Southwestern Oklahoma State. The senior from Gilbert, Arizona, was 9-for-13 at the dish against the Bulldogs and turned in back-to-back four-hit games to start the weekend. His .373 batting average is 10th in the conference and his .480 on-base percentage is fourth. Pollock has risen to the occasion in league games, where his batting average sits at .415 against GAC teams.
- Henderson has gotten excellent work out of the bullpen so far this year, particularly from
Kris Priddy, who leads the team with a 1.88 ERA. Priddy has allowed just 21 hits and six earned runs in 28 2/3 innings and has struck out 26 batters while walking just three.
Jon Youngblood has also been strong for the Reddies and has a 3-0 record with a 2.79 ERA out of the pen in 19 1/3 innings of work.
- As a team, the Reddies are second in the GAC in ERA (4.62) and fifth in batting average (.286). Henderson is fifth in the conference in runs (185), hits (273) and RBIs (154). HSU is one of the more active teams in the league on the basepaths, where the Reddies have stolen 46 bags — third-most in the GAC.
- After starting the conference season with a 1-8 record, HSU has rebounded and now sits at 9-9 in the GAC past the halfway point of its league schedule. The Reddies are currently in sixth place in the conference standings, two games back of fifth-place Harding, but one game ahead of SWOSU, who they have the tiebreaker over. At season's end, the top six teams in the league standings will earn bids to the GAC Tournament in Enid, Oklahoma.
SCOUTING EAST CENTRAL
- The Tigers come into the weekend series struggling at just 3-15 in the GAC and 3-27 overall this season. They have lost their last 12 games in a row dating back to March 1.
- ECU is led offensively by Josh Lincoln who carries a team-high .355 batting average and has racked up 33 hits this season. Lincoln has an OBP of .451 and has scored 21 runs this season. The Tigers' top arm is that of Alec Lemon, has thrown 42 1/3 innings this year with a 5.53 ERA and eight starts. Lemon is 1-5 on the season but has struck out 48 batters and walked just 19.
- Wins have been difficult to come by for ECU in the past two years. The Tigers are 8-64 overall and 7-43 in conference play since the start of the 2018 season. The Reddies had their way with East Central last season in Ada, Oklahoma, where they outscored the Tigers 31-2 in three games to sweep the series.
- The Tigers are just 1-14 in true road games this season and are 3-39 away from home since the start of 2018. Henderson, on the other hand, has won seven of its last eight games at Clyde Berry Field and has not dropped a conference game at home since losing to Southern Arkansas on Feb. 16.
