Henderson Swept at East Central Sunday

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Henderson State scored first in both games of Sunday's doubleheader, but was unable to quiet ECU's offense as the Reddies dropped both games by scores of 9-4.

HSU (18-20, 12-14) will try to get back on track when it returns home to face Southeastern Oklahoma State for two doubleheaders next weekend at 3 p.m. on Friday and 12 p.m. on Saturday.

Game One: East Central 9, Henderson State 4
HSU got on the board first for the third-straight game of the series when Madie Green singled home Marcela Lopez in the top of the first. Lopez had previously reached with a walk before stealing second to put herself in scoring position.

The Tigers tied the game in the bottom of the first and took a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the third with three singles.

Henderson State answered ECU's big inning with three of its own in the fourth. Kailey Reese was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning before a single from Monica Monreal and a deep fly out from Cecily Rodriguez sent Reese to third and Monreal  to second.

Moments later, Reese scored on a passed ball to make the game 4-2, while Brooklynn Jimeson, who was pinch running for Monreal, advanced to third. Lindsey Williams then walked and advanced on a ball in the dirt to give HSU runners on second and third with one out.

Ashlyn Taylor came through on the next at-bat and pulled HSU within one with a single through a left side, scoring Jimeson to make it a 4-3 ballgame. Two batters later, Taylor stole home after Alyssa Dixon induced a pick-off situation, tying the game 4-4.

Unfortunately, ECU added five runs in the bottom of the fifth, and the Reddies never threatened the rest of the way, as they fell 9-4.

Game Two: East Central 9, Henderson State 4
For the fourth time in the weekend series, the Reddies scored the game's first run, when an Abbie Moore single to left field brought in Marcela Lopez from third base.

ECU, as it did in the first game Sunday, tied things in the bottom half of the inning with a single which plated Sable Hankins.

After HSU scored on an ECU throwing error in the third, Hankins homered in her next two trips to the plate, helping the Tigers turn a 2-1 deficit into a 6-2 lead after four innings.

The Reddies scratched one across in the top of the sixth and in the top of the seventh, but ECU's hitting was too much for Henderson to handle, as the Tigers added three more runs and took the game, 9-4.
