ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — The Henderson State Red Wave swept away the competition on Saturday afternoon at the Wells Natatorium, defeating both Iowa Central College and Montevallo in men's and women's action.
The men out-paced Iowa Central 114-91 and Montevallo 168-33, while the women's team swam past Iowa Central 137-62 and beat Montevallo 126-79 in the round-robin style meet.
The Red Wave women won nine of the 11 events on the day and were led by Isabelle Andrews, who notched wins in both the 200-yard freestyle (2:02.81) and 200-yard butterfly (2:16.39), and swam a leg of the winning 400-medley relay team (4:07.49) alongside Amy Brandenburg, Elza Kachliishvili and Elam Fulton.
Brandenburg, Kachliishvili and Fulton each won individual events in their own right. Brandenburg took first in the 200-yard backstroke (2:18.13), Kachliishvili touched the wall first in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:29.31) and Fulton won the 50-yard freestyle (24.43).Â
Ceci Magnani joined Andrews as the only team members to win two individual events, taking first in the 1000-yard freestyle (11:22.65) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:32.54), while Emily Chen won HSU's ninth event by topping the podium in the 100-yard freestyle (56.63).
The men's team won six total events, three of which came from Till Steyer, who took first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:43.96), the 200-yard IM (1:58.49) and the 200-yard backstroke (1:53.03). Triston Little won the 1000-yard freestyle (10:02.67), while Yahor Pauliukovich claimed the top spot in the 200-yard butterfly (1:58.64) and the foursome of Stephen Jones, Ty Gibbs, Ryan Brown and Tim Holt was victorious in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:09.51) to end the meet.
Both squads return to the pool on Saturday, Jan. 18 when they compete at the Little Rock Invitational at 11 a.m.Â
