Henderson Hosts First GAC Series Versus Tech

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State will look to capitalize on a midweek win this Friday and Saturday when the Reddies host Arkansas Tech in a three-game GAC series at Clyde Berry Field.

The Reddies and Wonder Boys will kick things off with the opener on Friday at 3 p.m. before returning to play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.

REDDIES REPORT
- After dropping three close games to No. 2 Southern Arkansas last weekend in Magnolia, Henderson got back on track Wednesday evening when it defeated Texas A&M-Texarkana in dominant fashion, 9-1. The Reddies held the Eagles to just two hits in the win and capitalized on seven TAMUT errors.

- HSU is batting .231 as a team through 10 games this year and carries an ERA of 6.14 as a staff. Senior outfielder Danny Mitchell Jr. has started every game, has a .300 batting average and has stolen five bases for the Reddies. Junior outfielder Caleb Carr leads the team with 11 hits and sophomore first baseman Greyson Stevens has the club lead with nine RBIs.

- Freshman infielder Kaden Argenbright has come on strong of late for Henderson. The native of Sulphur Springs, Texas has started each of the last three games, is batting .333 in 18 plate appearances and had two hits and three RBIs on Wednesday against TAMUT. Argenbright has four hits and five RBIs in his last 11 at-bats.

- Senior infielder Joe Myers has shaken off a tough start to the year with impressive hitting in his last four games. Entering the series with SAU, Myers, who has started every game this season at either shortstop or second base, was just 2-for-20 at the plate on the year. The Little Rock native and Catholic High School product has picked up the pace, however, and has two hits in three of his last four games. Myers was 2-for-4 with a triple in the win over TAMUT.

- The Reddies have struggled against Arkansas Tech in recent years and have won just two of the last 10 meetings with the Wonder Boys. Henderson's last series victory over ATU came in 2017.

SCOUTING ARKANSAS TECH
- Arkansas Tech comes into the weekend series 3-7 overall and 2-1 in GAC play. The Wonder Boys went 1-6 in non-conference play, which included three losses to No. 8 Central Missouri, but took two of three last weekend from Ouachita Baptist to begin conference action.

- ATU has two big bats in its lineup in Stormy Taylor, who is hitting .359 with 14 hits, and Evan Hafley, who is batting .333, has hit three home runs and driven in seven. As a team, Tech is batting .208 which ranks 10th in the GAC and has just 14 extra base hits in 10 games.

- The Wonder Boys' ace on the mound is junior right-hander Hayes Cox, who the Reddies will likely see on Friday. Cox is 1-2 in three starts for Tech but has an ERA of 1.93 in 18.2 innings pitched this season. He has struck out 18 batters while allowing just 14 hits on the year and is currently the only ATU pitcher with three starts to his credit.
