Hot SNU Bats Down Henderson in Friday Opener

BETHANY, Okla. — Henderson State used a big fly to strike first on Friday afternoon against Southern Nazarene, but the Crimson Storm racked up 14 hits and scored 10-unanswered runs to rally and defeat the Reddies 10-2 in five innings.

Abbie Moore and Alyssa Dixon each had two hits to lead HSU on the day, while Czoey White hit her second home run of the season. Freshman Leann Beasley took the loss in her first college start after pitching 1.2 innings and allowing three runs on five hits.

White got Henderson off to a strong start when she launched a ball over the left field fence with two outs to plate two runs and put the Reddies up 2-0 in the first inning.

SNU answered quickly with a run in the bottom half to tie it, then scored two more on an RBI double in the second to take a 3-2 lead. After a scoreless third inning, the Storm broke the had-been close contest open in the fourth frame by scoring five runs on five hits.

Needing to rally, HSU lined into a double play in the top of fifth after a promising start with a leadoff walk. SNU closed things out in the bottom of the inning with an RBI double which scored two runs and ended the evening early for the Reddies.

Henderson will look to turn the series around tomorrow at 11 a.m. when the two teams meet in a doubleheader.
