HSU Ties It With 2-Run Homer, Falls in Tenth

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Henderson State battled Harding for an additional three innings Friday night, coming up short in the bottom of the tenth, 3-2. Leann Beasley and Mallory Brewer combined for six strikeouts and only three walks, going toe-to-toe with Harding's Lily Tanski who pitched all ten innings.

The Lady Bisons started things off with two runs in their first at-bat as Leann Beasley, who started things off on the mound for HSU, needed the first three outs to get comfortable. The freshman pitcher put things together from the top of the second on, keeping HU at bay for the remainder of four innings. The Horatio, Arkansas native ended her day having only given up four hits after giving up two in Harding's first at-bat.

With only seeing two hits through the fifth inning, the Reddies' Mallory Brewer, who came in to start the fifth frame, was able to keep Henderson within striking distance, which was all Abbie Moore needed. With one on and one out, Moore homered over the left field wall, bringing in Kailey Reese for a two-run dinger, tying the game, 2-2.

With Brewer and Tanski dueling it out, the game remained at a draw through the seventh inning, giving the Henderson home crowd free baseball. With HSU failing to connect on a Harding pitch in the extra time, however, a single run in the top of the tenth for the Lady Bisons was all they needed, winning the first game of the 3-game series, 3-2.

Moore led the offense for the Reddies, bringing in two RBIs and giving HSU one run and one hit. Reese matched Moore with one run and one hit of her own. Henderson (3-12, 2-7) returns tomorrow for a doubleheader against Harding, starting at 12 p.m.
