ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — After two weekends away from home, Henderson State returns to Clyde Berry Field on Friday and Saturday when it hosts Southwestern Oklahoma State in a three-game GAC series.
The Reddies and Bulldogs will face off in a single contest at 6 p.m. on Friday and a doubleheader at 12 p.m. on Saturday.
REDDIES REPORT
- Henderson comes into the series with SWOSU 9-8 overall and 6-6 in GAC play. The Reddies dropped two of three games last weekend to Northwestern Oklahoma State in Alva, Oklahoma and fell on Tuesday night in a non-conference game to Arkansas Tech. HSU is 7-4 at home this season but has played just four of its 12 conference contests at Clyde Berry Field.
- The Reddies are batting .294 as a team and are one of just four squads in the league with 20 or more home runs on the year (22). HSU ranks fourth in the GAC in team ERA (5.32) and has issued just 61 walks in 13.1 innings pitched this season.
- Five players have started every game this season for HSU:
Kaden Argenbright,
Alec Lewis,
Greyson Stevens,
Joe Myers and
Danny Mitchell Jr. Argenbright leads that group with a .338 batting average and a team-high 23 hits and eight doubles. Myers tops the club and is second in the GAC with 24 RBIs. He and Stevens each have five home runs in 17 games, which ties both for fourth in the conference.
-
Austin Cross, Henderson's Friday night starter in every series this season, last faced SWOSU in 2019 and put together one of the best outings of his career. Cross went seven full innings and allowed just two runs on seven hits in a 14-2 win for the Reddies. The appearance remains the longest of Cross's time at HSU. The Ashdown, Arkansas native holds a 5.48 ERA in 2021 and has a 1-3 record in five starts.
- HSU has dominated the series with Southwestern Oklahoma State in recent times. The Reddies have won five-straight, nine of the last 10 meetings, and 13 of the last 16 overall dating back to 2015. The Bulldogs have not defeated Henderson in Arkadelphia since Mar. 16, 2013 and HSU has won the last nine matchups between the teams at Clyde Berry Field. SWOSU's last series win over the Reddies came in 2016 in Weatherford, Oklahoma.
