RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. — Henderson State got out to an early lead on Saturday night, but Arkansas Tech scored 11 unanswered runs over the final seven innings to defeat the Reddies 11-2 in the series opener at Baswell Field.
Mathew Baker finished 2-for-4 at the plate and was the only Reddie with multiple hits in the contest. Joe Myers hit his team-leading eighth home run of the season in the first inning to drive in HSU's two runs.
Myers' blast in the top of the first gave Henderson (14-11, 10-9) a picture-perfect start on the road against the GAC's first-place team and put the Reddies in front 2-0.
After falling behind and failing to score in the bottom of the first, Tech put runs on the board in six of the next seven frames — including four in the second and three in the sixth — to turn the tables on HSU and pull away.
Henderson had eight hits on the night but was held to just three in the final five innings of play. The Reddies left two runners aboard in both the third and the ninth.
HSU will look to bounce back tomorrow at 1 p.m. when it faces Arkansas Tech again in a doubleheader.Â
