Reddies Host ECU for Senior Weekend in Arkadelphia

GAME COVERAGE LINKS | 2021 HSU BASEBALL GAMEDAY INFORMATION

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State plays its final home weekend series of the regular season on Saturday and Sunday when it hosts East Central at Clyde Berry Field.

The Reddies and Tigers will face off in a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday and a single game at 1 p.m. on Sunday. Senior Day festivities will begin at approximately 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.

REDDIES REPORT
- Henderson is looking to get back on track after falling in a three-game set on the road against GAC-leading Arkansas Tech last weekend. Playing short-handed at multiple positions due to COVID protocols, the Reddies nearly took the series finale on Sunday but fell 4-3 and dropped to 10-11 in conference play.

- The Reddies last two weekend opponents, Arkansas Tech and Southern Arkansas, are a combined 32-10 in GAC action. HSU's next three weekend opponents are a combined 18-45 against conference foes. Henderson is currently in a tie for seventh in the league standings with UAM. The top eight teams in the standings at the end of the regular season will advance to the GAC Tournament. The semifinal round and championship game will be played at Clyde Berry Field in Arkadelphia.

- As a team, HSU is batting .290 and carrying an ERA of 5.72 — both of which rank seventh in the conference. Greyson Stevens leads the club with 37 hits this season while Joe Myers is tops on the team with 33 runs scored, 31 RBIs and eight home runs. Myers leads the GAC in runs, is third in RBIs and is tied for fourth in home runs.

- On the mound, Spencer Taack has proven to be HSU's top arm this season. Taack boasts a team-best 4.11 ERA in 35 innings pitched, has struck out 34 batters and walked just nine, and carries a 4-1 record in seven starts. Fellow starter Matthew Baker has a 5.30 ERA and a 2-1 record in 35.2 innings of work. The Reddies have three bullpen arms with sub-4.00 ERAs: Taylor Langston (2.13), Cade Tucker (2.77) and Brayden Bebee (3.38).

- The Reddies have dominated the series with East Central since the formation of the GAC. HSU has won 11 of the last 14 meetings with the Tigers dating back to 2015 and has lost the series to ECU just once, back in 2014. However, Henderson has only swept East Central two times, in 2013 and 2018.

SCOUTING EAST CENTRAL
- East Central comes to town on a slide and has lost 10 of its last 11 games. The Tigers, who are 4-23 overall and 4-17 in GAC play, dropped two of three games last weekend at home to Southern Nazarene and are 0-13 in true road games this season.

- The Tigers are last in the league in team batting average (.233) and lead the conference in strikeouts with 275 total and an average of over 10 per game. ECU is 11th in the GAC in team ERA with a mark of 8.33 and opponents are batting .345 against East Central on the year.

- ECU's top hitter is Garrett Lemons, who leads the team with a .341 average, 31 hits, 20 RBIs and four home runs. Lemons is one of just two everyday players for the Tigers batting above .300 for the season. East Central's ace on the hill is Spencer Johnston, who carries a 5.16 ERA in 45.1 innings pitched. Johnston has a 1-4 record in nine starts and opposing batters are hitting .297 against him.
