Reddies Head to Durant for Series with SOSU

GAME COVERAGE LINKS | SOSU FAN ATTENDANCE INFORMATION

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State begins a nine-game road trip to end the regular season this weekend when it travels to Durant, Oklahoma to take on Southeastern Oklahoma State in a three-game series.

The Reddies and the Savage Storm will face off in a 2 p.m. single game on Saturday and finish the weekend with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. on Sunday.

REDDIES REPORT
- Henderson cruised through its final home series in style last weekend as the Reddies crushed East Central to sweep the three-game set at Clyde Berry Field. HSU out-scored ECU 42-4 in a total of 23 innings, racked up 44 hits, and had 17 go for extra bases. The Tigers were limited to just 13 hits in three games by the Henderson pitching staff.

- The three victories helped move HSU up in the GAC standings with three weekend series remaining in the regular season. The Reddies are now 18-13 overall, 13-11 in conference play, and tied for sixth in the league standings with UAM. Henderson is four games back of first place and two games back of fourth. The top eight teams in the GAC at the end of the year will advance to the conference tournament. The top four teams in the standings will get to host first round GAC Tournament games.

- Spencer Taack earned his second GAC Pitcher of the Week honor of the last three weeks on Tuesday after another stellar showing against East Central. Taack got his first opening game start of the season and did not disappoint, as he threw a complete-game, one hit shut-out. Taack struck out seven batters and walked just two to improve his record to 5-1 this season in eight starts. The junior right-hander has a team-best 3.43 ERA, which ranks fourth overall among pitchers in the league and third among starters.

- Danny Mitchell Jr. had one of his best weekends of the season for HSU against the Tigers. Mitchell Jr. was 6-for-12 at the plate in the series with seven RBIs, six runs scored, a triple and two home runs. The senior from North Little Rock had an on-base percentage of .562 in the three-game set and also walked twice. Mitchell Jr. also had three hits, two RBIs and four runs scored on Tuesday night in the non-conference win over Harding.

- Joe Myers has continued his spectacular senior year for the Reddies. Myers has five hits and 10 RBIs in his last three games for HSU and has hit six home runs in his last 10 outings. The senior from Little Rock is one of just two players in the GAC with 40 or more RBIs on the season (41) and is one homer away from becoming just the ninth player all-time at Henderson to hit 20 home runs in a career.

- The Reddies have been hot recently against Southeastern Oklahoma State and have won the last five meetings in the series dating back to 2018 and eight of the last 10 overall. SOSU last took the series from Henderson in 2017 in Durant, Oklahoma. The Savage Storm have beaten HSU at home just three times since 2012.

SCOUTING SOUTHEASTERN OKLAHOMA STATE
- The Savage Storm enter the weekend series 13-17 overall and 9-15 in conference play. SOSU was swept last week in Arkadelphia by Ouachita Baptist and has been swept in three of its last four GAC series. Southeastern has been much better at home than on road and holds a 9-8 record in Durant, Oklahoma.

- Offensively, the Storm are led by Seth Morrow, who is the GAC leader in RBIs (43), slugging (.829), doubles (13), and total bases (92). Morrow is second in the league in home runs (10) and tied for second in hits (45). The freshman has an OPS of 1.318 in 30 games this season.

- Southeastern's top starter is Jacob Potter, who holds a 4.60 ERA in seven starts this year. Potter has pitched 43 innings, struck out 38 batters and walked just eight. The junior from Canada has gone five innings or longer in six games this spring and has given up one run or fewer four times.

- As a team, the Savage Storm are ninth in the GAC in batting average (.281) and 10th in ERA (7.10). The SOSU pitching staff has given up the second-most home runs in the league (46).
