ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Reddies completely turned the tables on Southeastern Oklahoma St. after dropping the first game of the day, 9-0, as they won game two, 6-0, on the back of
Mallory Brewer, who tied her season-high with nine strikeouts.
Kaitlyn O'Quinn saw three of HSU's eight total hits, along with two RBIs, in the series finale while
Monica Monreal delivered a pair of multi-hit games in the doubleheader.
Morgan Reeve saw her best outing of the season in day's second game as she put up two runs, one hit and one RBI.
GAME ONE: Southeastern 9, Henderson State 0
The first two innings appeared to be much of the same from yesterday's pitching duel with both squads running a pair of scoreless innings as
Becca Almond allowed only one hit to SOSU.
The first-place Savage Storm got it going in the top of the third frame, however, piling on six runs off five hits and two fielding errors to race out to a 6-0 lead. Three more runs in the top of the fourth spelled a nine-run deficit for the Reddies.
With HSU unable to cut into the lead before the fifth inning closed, Southeastern earned the 9-0 run-rule win in game two of the weekend series.
GAME TWO: Henderson State 6, Southeastern 0
Brewer started off in the circle for game three and picked up where she left off from game one, throwing three straight strikeouts after allowing a lead-off single in SOSU's first trip to the plate, followed by three straight ground-outs in the Savage Storm's next at-bat to send play into the bottom of the second.
In Henderson's second time on offense, a Monreal double to leads things off ended with a five-run inning for the Reddies for the 5-0 lead. Responsible for the five runs were RBIs from
Macie Pampell and
Addie Jordan and two RBIs from O'Quinn, plus three Savage Storm errors.
Brewer continued to work through the third, fourth and fifth inning, only allowing SOSU four hits in that time, while HSU added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth off a solo home run from Reeve – her second of the season.
With Henderson holding a 6-0 lead, Southeastern as a team saw one final plate appearance, only to be met with back-to-back strikeouts at the hand of Brewer and a final ground-out to third to give HSU the upset, 6-0.
Henderson State (12-29, 9-21) will take this momentum into its final series of the season when Oklahoma Baptist comes to Dee White Field Friday, April 30 at 6 p.m. for game one of the 3-game weekend series.
