Monreal Walks It Off for the Reddies Win, 4-3

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Monica Monreal extended her hitting streak to six games as she went 3-for-4 against Oklahoma Baptist Friday evening, including hitting a walk-off single to defeat the Bison in game one of the weekend series, 4-3.

Monreal and Addie Jordan each had two RBIs while Krystal Lindsey earned her third win of the season from inside the circle in relief after only allowing one hit and zero runs in two innings of play. The win for the Reddies marks back-to-back victories on the season.

Mallory Brewer, who came into this contest with 199 career strikeouts, started things off on the rubber as she claimed her 200th career strikeout one-batter into play, becoming the fifth Reddie to ever reach such a milestone.

The fourth-year junior kept things going from there, giving up only two hits to the visiting Bison through five innings. While Brewer was dealing, Henderson built a 3-0 lead, all coming in the bottom of the fifth inning by way of a Monreal RBI-single followed by a two-run Jordan single to score Kailey Reese and Ashlyn Taylor.

With the Reddies holding the three-run advantage heading into the sixth frame, Oklahoma Baptist, who had only seen two hits up to that point, used four hits to score three runs and tie the ballgame.

With the game all knotted up and OKBU having all the momentum, Lindsey took over pitching duties with the Bison occupying first and third with no outs. The freshman pitcher was able to get HSU out of the jam, forcing three of the next four batters to ground-out without giving up a run.

With Henderson unable to separate itself in the bottom of the sixth, Lindsey once again kept the Reddies' hopes alive as she sent play into the bottom of the final inning, leaving it up to Henderson to get it done at the plate.

After Reese found herself on first by way of a fielder's choice and one batter later taking second, Monreal came to the plate with two outs facing her. The sophomore from Ennis, Texas, registered her third hit of the game with a single up the middle to score Reese from second and give HSU the win, 4-3.

Henderson State (13-29, 10-21) will look to win the series in tomorrow's doubleheader against OKBU, beginning at 12 p.m. with game three to follow. Senior Day recognitions will begin approximately 30 minutes before first pitch.
