Reddies Visit Ouachita for Weekend Battle

GAME COVERAGE LINKS

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State crosses the street this weekend when it tangles with rival Ouachita Baptist in the baseball version of the Battle of the Ravine.

The Reddies and Tigers will meet in a 3 p.m. single game on Friday and a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday.

REDDIES REPORT
- Henderson (20-14, 15-12) picked up a big series win last weekend in Durant, Oklahoma against Southeastern Oklahoma State. The Savage Storm won the first game on Friday, but the Reddies bounced back with two wins on Saturday to steal the series on the road. HSU had 41 hits in the three games against SOSU, including 19 in game two, and defeated the Storm 16-1 in the deciding contest.

- The Reddies' bats have come alive over the course of the past two weeks. In its previous seven games, HSU has recorded 99 hits and scored 87 runs. Henderson has 30 extra base hits in that time period — 15 doubles, 10 home runs and five triples. The team batting average has jumped from .290 to .316 in that time span, which ranks fourth-best in the GAC.

- HSU currently has eight players in its lineup who have played in 20 or more games and are hitting .300 or better. A ninth, Bryson Haskins, is hitting .295 and was 8-for-15 at the plate last week for the Reddies, which included a 5-for-5 effort in the second game against Southeastern.

- Joe Myers has been tearing the cover off of the ball for the Reddies all season and that continued last week. Myers had five hits in four games for HSU but drove in 10 runs behind two home runs and a triple. Myers now leads the GAC with 47 RBIs on the season and is second in the league with 11 home runs. The senior from Little Rock had 62 RBIs in 143 career games entering this spring.

- Danny Mitchell Jr. has found his groove offensively for Henderson over the past two weeks. Mitchell Jr. is 16-for-29 (.551) at the plate for the Reddies in his last seven games and has raised his batting average from .234 to .301 in that period of time. Mitchell Jr. has five multi-hit contests in those seven games.

- Kaden Argenbright will bring a 10-game hit streak into the weekend series against Ouachita. Argenbright has at least one hit in 26 of Henderson's 34 games this season and has recorded 15 multi-hit games. The freshman leads the club with a .377 batting average, 49 hits and 12 doubles.

- True freshman Ethan Perry picked up another two wins for HSU on the mound on Wednesday and Sunday and now has a 5-1 record on the year for the Reddies. Perry pitched a combined 6.1 scoreless innings in his two outings and allowed just four total hits. The McKinney, Texas native has a 4.13 ERA in 28.1 innings of work this season.

- The Battle of the Ravine rivalry series has been remarkably close over the last several years. Both teams have won five of the last 10 matchups going back to 2017. Ouachita Baptist has won the series twice, in 2017 and 2018, but the Reddies won the three-game set in 2019. HSU won the lone matchup between the teams this season 12-8 back on Mar. 16.

SCOUTING OUACHITA BAPTIST
- The Tigers are hot entering the weekend, having won their last seven games and eight of their last nine overall. OBU is 11-16 in league play, has won three-straight GAC series and swept both ECU and Southeastern Oklahoma. Ouachita is 9-9 at Rab Rodgers Field this season and is currently three games back of the final spot in the GAC Tournament.

- As a team, Ouachita Baptist is 11th in the conference in batting average (.252) and ninth in ERA (6.45). The Tigers have scored the third-fewest runs (181) of any team in the GAC.

- Cade Burris leads the Tigers at the plate with a .331 batting average and 39 hits. Louis Steen has a team-best 31 RBIs and five home runs for OBU, while Tyler Riebock is also tied for the club lead with five home runs.

- Ouachita's top starter is reigning GAC Pitcher of the Week Luke Scaggs, who boasts a 4.57 ERA in 12 appearances and 10 starts. Scaggs has allowed 65 hits in 63 innings pitched, struck out 40 batters and walked 17 on the year.
