Brewer Goes the Distance, Reddies Win 1-0

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Mallory Brewer struck out four of the first five batters she faced as the junior pitcher spent all seven innings inside the circle, leading Henderson State to the 1-0 victory over Ouachita Baptist Tuesday evening. The El Dorado, Arkansas, native improved her record to 5-8 on the year and claimed her 20th win for her career.

In the low scoring affair, Addie Jordan had the lone RBI from either side and two of the Reddies' five hits. In Monica Monreal's first game back, she registered a double and the only run of the game.

After both pitchers allowed zero runs in the first frame, Henderson got on the board first on the backend of a Monreal double, with Jordan sending a single to right center, bringing Monreal home for the 1-0 Reddie lead.

It stood a pitcher's duel from there on out as neither team threatened until the fifth inning when both teams saw two on with one out in each respective at-bats, but solid field play kept the score stagnant at 1-0.

Ouachita Baptist looked like it was about finally get on the board with two on, one out in the bottom of the sixth, but a third-base-to-first-base double play spelled the end of the sixth frame as play moved into the final inning.

After the Reddies made some moves in the top of the seventh only to come up empty, Brewer closed the deal, registering the second out via one of her five strikeouts and then forcing OBU into a ground-out to shortstop to finalize the game, 1-0.

Henderson State (11-20, 8-13) comes back to Dee white for a four-game series against the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns, with the first doubleheader happening on Friday, April 9 at 4 and 6 p.m.
