ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State had six players named to the 2022 All-Great American Conference baseball teams on Friday evening.
Two pitchers, Spencer Taack and Brayden Bebee, each received First Team All-Conference honors. Outfielder David Vilches and first baseman Greyson Stevens were both named to the All-GAC Second Team, while outfielder Bryson Haskins and utility player Cade Tucker earned Honorable Mention recognition.Â
Stevens was also recognized for his work in the classroom and was one of just two players in the conference to receive the GAC's Elite Scholar-Athlete Award.
Taack, who was the only pitcher in the GAC named to the league's 2022 All-Defensive Team, earned selection to the First Team for the second year in a row. The senior from Dallas, Texas finished the regular season with an 8-1 record and 3.65 ERA in 13 starts. Taack struck out 71 batters, limited opponents to a .228 batting average and was named Conference Pitcher of the Week twice. In the last two seasons, Taack is 15-3 on the mound.
Bebee, a native of Arkadelphia, earned the first All-GAC honor of his career and was the only relief pitcher in the conference to garner selection to the First Team. The right-hander was excellent in relief all year for the Reddies and holds a 2.23 ERA in 17 appearances. Bebee has struck out 38 batters in 32.1 innings pitched and is limiting opposing hitters to a .124 average at the plate.
Both Vilches and Stevens were named to the league's Second Team. In his one and only year with the Reddies, Vilches wrote his name in the program record books by hitting a school record 16 home runs this spring. He drove in 42 runs and also had eight doubles. Stevens hit .362 for HSU and recorded 67 hits, 18 doubles, nine home runs and 46 RBI. He became the school's all-time leader in RBIs by capturing the 129th of his career last weekend.
Veterans Haskins and Tucker each received All-GAC Honorable mention accolades. Haskins, a fifth-year senior, hit .301 with seven home runs and 31 RBIs. He has started 166 games in his career for the Reddies in centerfield. Tucker served double duty for Henderson this spring as both a starting pitcher and position player. On the mound, he carried a 4-3 record and 5.22 ERA with 60 strikeouts in 60.1 innings. At the plate, he hit a stellar .364 with 11 doubles, six home runs and 24 RBIs.
The Reddies (35-14) begin their quest for a second-straight GAC Tournament title tomorrow at Majestic Park in Hot Springs when they face No. 7 seed UAM at 3:50 p.m.
