EDMOND, Oklahoma - In the first action of the 2022 fall season for the Henderson State women's tennis program,
Mulan Kamoe and true freshman
Jenna Kate Bohnert advanced to the Round of 16 in singles at the ITA Regionals. All three doubles teams also saw wins on day one as they will play in the Round of 16 as well.
Kamoe was the only Reddie to compete in the A Draw of singles, opening with a victory in the first round over Augustana's Margarita Chouliara 6-3, 4-6, 10-3. Kamoe came back with another three-set victory over Harding's Romane Britt by a nearly identical score, 6-3, 4-6, 10-4.
Bohnert, playing in her first collegiate tournament, had a first-round bye in the B Draw before advancing to the Round of 16 after defeating Karen Santiago Sanchez of Emporia State in a dog fight, 6-3, 5-7, 10-8. Both Kamoe and Bohnert will play tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. CT with a chance to play in the quarterfinals that same day at 11 a.m.
Junior transfer out of Indiana Tech
Marianna Barona Murcia and
Danna Nunez also picked up round-one victories, defeating Central Oklahoma's Lexi Penn and Missouri Western's Ellie Messenger 6-3, 6-3 and 6-1, 2-6, 10-7, respectively.Â
On the doubles side, Kamoe got her third win of the day, joining partner
Kristina Kozlova to defeat Ouachita Baptist's Austynn Crocker and Natalia Zamora as part of the Main Draw. The duos of Nunez/
Tirzah Bailey and Murcia/Bohnert also advanced in the B Draw. All Round of 16 doubles matches will take place tomorrow at 2 p.m. CT.
